Planning on flying from New York to Vegas later this year and bringing a pistol with me.  Spending one night - then driving out to Arizona for the rest of the week.

Everything in NY is legal and on the up and up - but when I land in Vegas and grab my suitcase - do I have anything I need to be concerned about?  Not going to go through the trouble of getting a non-resident permit for one night.  Nevada doesn't recognize a NY or PA permit.

How are attitudes towards open carry there?  While driving, can I open-carry?   Or do I need to keep the gun in a locked case until I hit the Arizona border?

I've looked at the USCCA website - but wanted to hear it first hand from the locals.

Thanks!

OC on the strip or in a hotel/casino is not advised. Your room? You paid for it and a firearm is your personal property.

However, OC is legal throughout Nevada with a few exceptions (government buildings, etc).

Carrying a firearm in a backpack, briefcase, purse, fanny pack, etc carried upon the person without a permit is against the law.

You can carry a loaded handgun anywhere in a vehicle if it is concealed (under the seat, glovebox, trunk, etc) somewhere in the vehicle and not on the person.

A backpack or other container containing a firearm is not considered concealed in a vehicle if it is not carried upon the person.

Hope this helps and if anyone wants to add anything please do.

BTW: Arizona is so gun friendly you might not want to go back to NY!

OK - so I shouldn't expect any issues getting my luggage when I land in Las Vegas?

I do look forward to OC'ing all over AZ.  What about the Indian reservations - can you OC/CC on the Navajo reservation?

Reservations are sovereign ground and have their own rules and laws.

Truth!

And if you're a drinker, check the Resi rules before you go- many are dry so it's BYOB.

Although we have become an anti-Gun state with the current leadership in Nevada, LVMPD at the Airport (the local police department) is really cool when it comes to people traveling with firearms. so no worries there. Just don't be a dick.

Enjoy your stay in the Southwestern United States and be safe traveling!
