I’ll be visiting Iowa over the week of July 4th and was planning to bring a pistol or two with me, along with a small amount of ammo that I can check on the airplane.  Can I purchase handgun ammo in Iowa as a non resident.  What is ammo availability like right now in Iowa?

Thanks for the help

You should have no problem buying ammunition in Iowa.

Perfectly legal in Iowa.  Don’t know that you’ll actually find any.

Fleet farm and Sportman's by me both had 9mm in stock... behind the counter for an astronomical number.

That said, I just paid $9/box for 12ga. Super Sports, so eh.

Totally fine to buy ammo. What calibers you looking for, might be the more problematic part.

Potentially 9 mm and 22.  I will be bringing 150!rounds of each with me.  I think that will be plenty, but who knows.

I'm seeing some 22 show up.  9mm is still pretty much gone everywhere.  A batch will turn up but sell out within a day.  Walmart is effectively out of the ammo business so no hope there.

Fin & Feather as well as Scheels in Iowa City are stocked well right now.

JT Guns, on Merle Hay Road, has stacks of ammo.  Everything from 5.56, .45 ACP to 7.5 Swiss and .303 British.

Anyone have a line on 12 ga. target loads? I quit reloading when shit was cheap, now regretting it. Ideally 1oz loads under $90/case.

Dunhams in Mason City just opened up, tons of ammo Friday, all varieties of shotgun(I do mean ALL varieties, they even had 00Buck for 10 gauge) and 9mm Blazer Brass was $14.99 per 50.

Thanks, I might get that desperate. Sportsman's has it, but 2 box limit.

Brownell's had some but then cancelled my order. At this rate I'll be throwing rocks by the state shoot at the end of the month.
