They turn on at 0530 officially.

I drive into DC from Leesburg. 7 to 66.

I started leaving about 15 mins later in the morning the last few days.

I hit 66 at the the West Falls Metro.

The last few times I’ve hit the first toll between 0522 and 0525. Each time the toll has been on and charging me.

Unless two iphones (one ATT and one T-Mobile) have the inaccurate times...what gives?

Is this more Coon-man fuckery?

I think you are charged a toll if you are on the road during the toll time.   So you are entering the toll lanes at 0526, by the time you hit the next toll gate you are getting charged for the ride.  I think you have to be clear of the entire toll road by 0530 to prevent a toll charge.

Well, the toll signs with the price were lit up and on before 530 too the other day.

Perhaps they changed their system clocks the wrong way when DST went into effect? Ask VDOT?

I'm no Northam fan, but I think he has nothing to do with the charges.

The toll times starting early are either a way to money grab, or simple inaccurate timekeeping.

Sincerely, Capt. Obvious.

Obviously, my Northam joke was sarcasm.

How do you know the exact times you are charged? Is the a listing on your Ezpass statement?  I use to cut through Vienna to bypass the tollroad and get back on a 123.  The signs always came on between 0520 and 0521 by my clock when sitting at the light on 123 just before the ramp.  The readers on 66 flashed all the time anyway.  I retired last year so not sure if that has changed.  If the time stamp on the charge is 0522 I guess you could try and argue it.  Good luck.
