Welcome to MT. What brings you out this way? We have quite a few members here in Billings. Some are fairly active while others, not so much.

Best shop in Billings is Beartooth gun on Grand Ave. Dave is the owner / operator and once he gets to know you he warms up to you. You can definitely ask him about trading but be reasonable in your expectations. 9mm was fairly easy to fund here during the crunch.

Billings is the largest city in MT. Approx 120-150k in population. Very industrial with manufacturing and 3 refineries in the area. The housing market is booming here. Lots of people moving to the area have driven up the cost of housing. They can't build houses fast enough.

Things to do in Billings. There are walking trails, parks, bike paths all over town. You can use those to recreate. Fishing on the Yellowstone, at riverfront park, and a few other spots. Lots of shopping. Movie theatres, museums, etc. Lots of breweries. Good food, decent nightlife. Red Lodge is an hour south and you can get into the mountains (FS) to do more recreation. North and east of town have a lot of BLM land that was developed for ATV/Motorcycle riding. You can shoot on any BLM ground unless posted.

Billings being the largest city in the state has crime. Murders (rare), Drugs (prevalent), Shootings (actually not rare and mostly related to drugs), etc. PD does a great job but they are understaffed and the county jail is full. Most common criminals are catch and release, due to overpopulation. There is a "large" transient population downtown. They wonder around, drink and cause problems with themselves. Most are natives from the rez's that come here to "party". PD used to drive them out to the county line and let them go but they cannot anymore. The city has been trying to figure out what to do with them for years.

I grew up here and have lived here a good percentage of my life. Is Billings the best city in MT, no. If I had my choice I would be in the mountains on the west side (extremely expensive) but my job keeps me here. Is it a bad city to raise a family? No. There is plenty to do and even though it is large it is still a good community.

How are your roads in to your property?  The bulls can get nasty quick.

My experience in the bulls and a lot of eastern montana is if it's starts to rain, Find a solid road quick. The roads turn to a sloppy mess quick.

If you can, make road improvement one of your priorities. It will suck when you can't make it out due to poor road conditions.

If they fix the road and what they tear up, sure. Get it in writing though.

Depending on the weather over the next few days, just give it 3 days of sunshine and wind and it'll be like set concrete.
