Hello Everyone,

Just moved to California, lame, only for a few years. Ive done my research for carrying weapons for defense however I am curious about a sheathed fixed blade carried horizontally on the waist.  The laws are not clear in this regard.  A folder over 3.5 inches illegal and in lieu of my sidearm I'd like to have some penetrating capabilities without drawing attention and remain legal.  Anyone have any experience or input on this?

There is no length limit by state law in California as I recall for folding knives.  I work with a guy who carries a gigantic folder.

I'm pretty sure that if you carry a fixed blade on your side it has to be clearly seen and cannot be a Dirk or Dagger. The PC's that cover this are 12020 (a)(1)(4) see also 16470 and 20200.

To add on, all of it has to be exposed.

Excellent thank you, also to note, I could not find the 3.5" law I know I read it in legislation it must have been on a local or county level.

Welcome, I am not aware of any laws against fixed blades. What part of CA are you in? Lots of counties will issue CCW's now.

Correct. Fixed blades must be carried openly.
