In our small city we have a walking/bike trail that is mantained by our city's 'park district'. The trail system runs through the city's parks which are also maintained by the 'park district' but have three city streets which intersects the segments of the trail system. A person has to cross these streets to complete the full trail system. Parking for your vehicle is in the city's 'park district' lots or on the public streets where available. So is it legal or illegal to carry concealed on this trail system? This is nowhere near the Chicago area.

From here.

(13) Any public park, athletic area, or athletic facility under the control of a municipality or park district, provided nothing in this Section shall prohibit a licensee from carrying a concealed firearm while on a trail or bikeway if only a portion of the trail or bikeway includes a public park.

Not a lawyer, but I take this to mean that you can pass through if you stay on the trail. Don't use restrooms or stray from the path.

You might get more knowledgeable responses if you cross-post at illinoiscarry.com.

Man!  Really have to go into the weeds on this one!!!
The Law:
(13) Any public park, athletic area, or athletic

facility under the control of a municipality or park district, provided nothing in this Section shall prohibit a licensee from carrying a concealed firearm while on a trail or bikeway if only a portion of the trail or bikeway includes a public park.

So, if the trail starts at the park, it would be a no carry trail.  It has to originate elsewhere and travel through to make it a carry trail.

Thank you for the responses...One of the trailheads is in the park district park. But it is possible to park on the street on two of the trailheads and walk the trail. This seems to be quite gray area and is probably best served by not carrying here...oh well!
