Looks like Cuomo will have some challengers next time around including maybe one from his own party (Miner). On the republican side Kolb and Giambra had already said they were running and now DeFrancisco has thrown his name in the ring.

Brian Kolb Will Challenge Cuomo

Joel Giambra Wants To Be Governor

Who is John DeFrancisco

DeFrancisco Running for Governor

I think like Kolb the best out of the choices, he's been a loud critic of the SAFE Act. DeFrancisco has made statements previously about it as well and voted against it although he hasn't been as loud a critic as Kolb. Giambra strikes me a hippy stoner who's main platform is legalize marijuana to pay for road and bridge upgrades.

GOP candidate needs 35 percent of the vote in NYC to win

Giambria doesn’t have a shot at the nomination and I simply don’t see how Kolb or DeFran have any chance to reach the threshold in NYC required to win.

Looks like Kolb dropped out leaving DeFrancisco as the front runner although according to this he has no name recognition outside of CNY:

A pro-pot, jobs and infrastructure focused Republican who makes noise about "criminal justice reform and reducing prison population" and can keep his fucking mouth shut on immigration could easily take 50% of NYC.

It's not THAT hard to BS the FSA. The Democrats have been doing it since the beginning of time.

As I said before, if he is smart he will run on "save the upstate" platform and will show that NYC is stealing all resources from the Upstate. He needs to energize the non-NYC population. What is the percentage of NYC folks who actually vote? 20%? If he gets a big turnout outside of NYC he will crush FUAC.

Depends on the election cycle and whether there are national elections. NY has pretty low turn out when it's just a NY election.

What percentage of support do they need from their own party?

Whatever it is, they probably won't get it.

Looks like DeFrancisco is considering dropping out now

Syracuse.com

State Sen. John DeFrancisco is considering whether to drop his bid for governor after failing to win the endorsement of Conservative Party leaders over the weekend, according to Spectrum News

DeFrancisco, 71, has said he will not try to force a Republican primary because the party needs to be united if it has any chance of defeating Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the November election.

How about turn out in NYC? Hopefully Coumo's shortcomings will come out is the Democratic primary, as well as depleting his war chest.
We do have a chance here.

The problem with that is, NYC isnt stealing resources from Upstate, at least in terms of taxes and state aid going back out from Albany. NYC gives a lot more to Upstate than it gets from Albany.

Unless you are talking about water...

When talking in terms of pure dollars and cents you are correct.

But almost every other resource (gas, electricity, water, and consumables) seem to come from the rest of the state or even out of state.

If we're getting so much from NYC, why can't they fix bridges and roads?

If we were also separated from NYC, we wouldn't be subsidizing their electric.  We could charge them whatever we wanted to, and our rates would drop.

Everything NYC uses comes from somewhere else. Water, power, garbage disposal, food etc. Maybe the price should go up.

The sex in the city bitch is the only one going to give dooshbag a run.    She may just burn the whole thing down if she wins.   The chance to save upstate was lost with the convention vote. Morons.

I don’t understand. Every election, conservative values get creamed. But if we had a convention, some how we’d be able to find the political power to completely right the ship?
We would open up the books and all of the appointed delegates would be brilliant and liberty minded common folk, huh?

Seems unlikely. The potential damage is epic.
