Welcome back!

This route starts on the cross county trail at 495 and Little River Turnpike, and turns around at Barkley Drive.  It's a bit more wooded than Hunter Station, and we have good cover from step off to turn around, with the exception of the two intersections.  Long guns are a go, and we'll play don't get spotted when we cross the the two intersections.

As with Hunter Station, hike for time, except if we all agree to add the "don't get spotted" game. Keep visible light to a minimum.

Parking in the VDOT lot accessible from the Little River Tpk Service Road.  From the beltway, take LRT west, the the first right onto Lake Blvd.  The service road is right there to your right.

This is in addition to the regularly scheduled Hunter Mill hikes.  Feel free to join both.  If I'm missing anyone in the notifications, feel free to @ them in this thread.

Are any the parks on the route posted?

Following a public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance amending the county code, to prohibit the possession, carrying or transportation of firearms, components and ammunition in county buildings, parks, recreation and community centers, and at or adjacent to permitted events.
As required by law, the county will post signage at the entrances to all areas where firearms, components and ammunition are prohibited. Violations of the prohibition constitute a Class 1 Misdemeanor.

Yes, and it is unposted.

The route is part of the inter county trail, and as such needs approval of all the jurisdictions it crosses.

As of yet, that hasn't happened.

You can hear him talking a mile away if you choose the right subject. Hint - say "What's the best game in Roblox?"

Actually, I was thinking about scouting the route tonight and scattering a bunch of nickels for him to find.

I should be good to go unless my daughter's tonsillectomy goes sideways.

Just be fucking careful - someone got robbed on a busier stretch of that trail at 10 AM on Saturday according to my local mountain biking group.

Different daughter.  You wouldn’t want her out there.  Constant chatterbox.

Dang, feels like we're getting the band back together.

Need to stop by the store and pick up something civilized for the turn around point.

I’m going to have to bow out this week.  Daughters surgery was pushed later and they even took the adenoids out.  Just got her home and she’s miserable.  Wife is flustered with the Oxy doses, prednisone and everything that needs to be done.

I guess the closest would be to wish you the best but yeah not quite it.  Thanks though.

Are y'all hiking in Hoodbridge now?  I'm glad to hear you all had a safe, uneventful hike.  I'm looking forward to rejoining when the work slows down (hopefully not due to a recession).

Hoodbridge?  There be dragons.

True Hoodbridge story.

Summer of 17 I had some fab work done by a shop off Rt 1 in Hoodbridge.  I was early (8 AM on a Saturday) when I went to pick it up, so I stopped in the Dunkin Doughnuts for some coffee and to kill an hour.

About 8:30, five hispanic guys walk in.  Four of them have gang / prison tats, heavily muscled, at least two hand guns between them.  Fourth guy looks like a normal hispanic guy with two exceptions.

First, he was scared shitless and obviously didn't want to be there with the other four.

Second, his right arm was amputated just above the elbow.

As in recently amputated, wrapped in gauze and seeping through.

They bought him ice cream.

In a cup, with a spoon.

Put it in his left hand.

And didn't let him sit down why they ate theirs.

They finished, left their trash on the table, put his on the table and left.

I suppose I could forgive the amputated arm, cause maybe he was a thief or something.

But that ice cream thing was just damn cruel.

Joseph Conrad did it better.
Anything approaching the change that came over his features I have never seen before, and hope never to see again.

Oh, I wasn't touched. I was fascinated.

It was as though a veil had been rent. I saw on that ivory face the expression of sombre pride, of ruthless power, of craven terror--of an intense and hopeless despair. Did he live his life again in every detail of desire, temptation, and surrender during that supreme moment of complete knowledge? He cried in a whisper at some image, at some vision--he cried out twice, a cry that was no more than a breath:
The horror! The horror!
