Buddy is moving to MASS and owns an HK VP9 with 10 rounds mags. Any permit required if he plans on keeping the firearm in the house for home defense only? Thanks

He needs to get a permit. He will need a LTC-A.

Your friend should probably look at some of the guides from GOAL https://goal.org/

They do most of the heavy lifting in terms of keeping what remains of our 2A rights in Mass.

Yes, your friend will need to take at least 4.5 hours of approved training*

* List here.  We used to always teach NRA Home Firearms Safety, as it was short, straightforward, and our club had a number of MA specific instructors on hand.

Be aware that Mass has a state level version of the 1994 federal assault weapons ban [so no mags holding more than 10 rounds made after September 1994], as well as a state level handgun roster.

Im next door in Wayland.  Good chance we did the Septic inspection at his house.  Good pistol range in town.
