1. Access to public shooting ranges (longe range is a bonus as would 2-gun type shooting.)
1:A. Networking with like minded folk
2. Hunting. (What can we hunt in UT?)
3. Atv trail riding/hiking/camping/etc
4. Decent lake with deep enough water for water sport recreation
5. Within a reasonable distance of "weekend or extended weekend" type vacation opportunities. (Vegas, slc getaway, ski trip, etc?)
6. I would personally prefer to not live in town.

LRshooter really covered all this.
I live in St George on the AZ border. It's a small city but one of the most rapidly growing cities in the country. Last I looked houses were averaging $ 700k. New housing is houses built on very very very small lots in HOA controlled high density housing developments. St George has a couple of reservoirs but how they're going to handle continued high density suburban developments with limited water, who knows, but that's probably a statewide problem. At least the air is okay. I guess Salt Lake has smog problems.
1-St George is about as low crime as you're going to find.
2-It's hot as hell in the summer.
3-Schools have a limited budget but my elementary age kids love the school and the teachers in my limited experience have been great. Parents are active in sports I don't have time to sleep with all the activities my kids are in. I may be naive about how clique-ish it is over Momon v non Mormon, but my kids haven't noticed it.
4-very conservative-HBO has a show where they troll little conservative towns with drag shows. So they tried to put on. Drag show in the middle of town at noon. I think it ended up at a nearby college campus outside at night. City manager who was in favor, or at least a voice of reason that it couldn't be shut down was fired. Lots of people have moved in from out of state, especially CA, so who knows.
1-there are a couple of ranges and a lot of nearby public land to shoot on. Very pro gun
2-I didn't hunt here this year. UT has lotteries for a lot of hunting there's not much game due to the arid landscape and I have heard some public hunting is crowded. There's a bounty on coyotes, cougar hunting got opened up more.
3-A gazillion acres of land for riding atvs and camping
4-I don't have a boat, it's a desert. You do see boats around. Maybe they float around on the reservoirs?
5-Vegas is a little over and hour and a half. Salt Lake City is four hours.
6-I don't know much about the area wide real estate market outside "the city"
I don't know what the job market is like. I have talked to a few guys who work in town mostly who moved from the east. There's a lot of people with money and expensive (for UT) cars "what do these people do?" Usually gets me a shrug. A lot of new homes are bought by people working from home for an out of state company.
Like LRShooter said Cedar city is an hour north and cooler.
There's skiing at Brian's Head. Not far from . When I posted about going there a lot of guys thought it was a pretty "meh" ski town. My daughter got really sick when we got there and I think I had altitude sickness, we ended up going home without skiing. We had rowdy potheads in the next room and I got the impression after posting here that was no surprise.
My family loves it here. It's a beautiful area with a lot of public land that's beautiful, but often over crowded, and public land that's fairly empty.
