This WSJ article was posted on Complete Colorado.  There's a pay wall, but you can read the first few paragraphs and get the gist.  I had no idea that these jackasses did this, but I'm not surprised.  Another case of the Fatal Conceit and unintended consequences from our betters.  This is what happens when govt does things that no one, including them have any business doing.

Many Companies Want Remote Workers—Except From Colorado
After a new state law that requires employers to disclose salaries for open positions, some are advertising jobs available anywhere in the U.S. but Colorado

Big companies are hiring for remote positions that can be performed in any state across the U.S. except one: Colorado.

At issue is a new Colorado law that requires companies with even a few employees in the state to disclose the expected salary or pay range for each open role they advertise, including remote positions. The rule’s aim is to narrow gender wage gaps and provide greater pay transparency for employees. To avoid having to disclose that information, though, some employers seeking remote workers nationwide are saying that those living in Colorado need not apply.

Across the internet, an array of job listings state the work can’t be done in Colorado. At Johnson & Johnson, roles recently posted for a commercial finance senior manager and a senior manager in operations include this caveat: “Work location is flexible if approved by the Company except that position may not be performed remotely from Colorado.” At commercial real-estate giant CBRE Group Inc., an ad for a project management director notes in bold: “This position may be performed remotely anywhere within the United States except the State of Colorado.”

At pharmaceutical distributor McKesson Corp. , postings for a sales specialist and a research quality manager include similar disclaimers. Job listings for a scientist, an account executive and a manager of international tax planning at rival Cardinal Health Inc. also note: “This is a remote, work from home position. This role is to be filled outside of the state of Colorado.”

Johnson & Johnson and CBRE declined to comment, and McKesson and Cardinal Health didn’t respond to requests for comment.

so now i know why these job listings all have midpoint salaries listed.

we actually talked about this at work the other day.

we were shocked at how low the midpoints are.

It's actually a huge problem as a hiring manager, since all pay truly depends on experience and is more or less negotiable.  Posting a pay rate that is low will discourage more qualified applicants, but posting a pay rate higher will either anger less qualified current employees or cause applicants who would be minimally qualified but show some potential to assume they deserve the higher salary.  It's a huge problem.

i get shitloads of recruiter calls for some strange reason.

when recruiters call me my first question is always salary range.

if they can't/won't provide a range then they're playing games and wasting my valuable time.

I agree with that, but that's when recruiters reach out to you proactively. If they can identify your qualifications roughly they should definitely give you a range, I just don't like having to put a range on job postings on indeed.

Wokeness... the dems thought that by requiring more transparency with regards to pay ranges they would close the pay gap (if it even exists)  with women and minorities. However in reality employers are allowed to pay more or less than the posted range. I think that this law will also move towards more government audits of our pay rates to verify we're all treating all of the protected classes fairly... just another step towards socialism when we won't be able to pay top performers more or get rid of bottom performers without .gov approval.

dunno, man.

seems like everywhere i've worked the top performers and bottom performers get +/- 10% or basically the same pay.

lots of turnover when the top performers figure this out.

can't imagine why.
