So it doesn’t use that number for verification?? |

Don't know anything about baofeng radios but you can find yaesu or icom older handhelds fairly cheap. Have had my Yaesu VX-7R for for many years. Think I saw used ones for under $100 bucks. Check out radio reference web site in the classifieds or craigslist. As long as it can transmit in time of emergency, you should be good to go. The cell phones can be shut down to easy to trust. They did that in southern California when they had the riots there to stop folks communicating.

This can even mean stopping people from doing stupid/unnecessary stuff. If you don't have a scanner or receiver, suggest you get one and learn it. I have a few and can listen to hams and pretty much all frequencies. Even have a handheld ham radio, no ticket, in the event I would need to communicate in an emergency. If you can afford it, get a Icom R30 handheld receiver. Picks up P25 phase I just fine. Would something like a boafeng be able to receive messages from a “command center” probably not answer back? But then have comms nearby? What would be an effective range of a cheapish baofeng? It's heavily dependent on the antenna and terrain/conditions, but realistically you're looking at a couple miles under ideal conditions. I need something to go like 15 miles under (possibly) less than ideal conditions, handheld. Possible under $150? Eta: really digging this dudes setup ![]() Reliably getting 15 miles from a handheld is going to be a tall order even under the best circumstances unless you have plenty of repeater infrastructure to use. |

I didn't read back word for word, but it appeared there were discussions going back farther than that regarding activity at older protests. I think the name change is a wise choice. |

A burner phone or some other phone not linked to you might be a good idea if signing up with telegram.
I was contacted twice by people I know after signing up. Apparently telegram has some way of letting you know that someone on your contacts list is now on telegram. |

Is this still going? It’s no longer in my list of Telegram chats. Seems more important now than ever to have a secondary means of keeping in touch when people are being disappeared left and right around here.
