The bill directs a viability study.

I wonder what the chances are they admit it's not viable?

Viable? Sure. Anything's viable. Effective at helping solve crimes? Absolutely not. But that's not the point of the study, or of the bill.

The point of the bill is to ban all/most handgun purchases in NY.

So even if one podunk company says they can make the parts...no more handguns until they all can do the microstamping.

Does not apply to revolvers. Or anything but semi.

Does not apply to new sales of semis manufactured before the effective date.

This could create a premium market for new old stock and lightly used semi pistols in NY.
Especially if they claim ms is viable and it's really not.

Well once all the old stock of semi auto pistols are sold, THEN we won't be able to buy anymore.

Buy a few more guns now, worth 3-4x as much down the road!

As if we will be allowed to sell them to anyone other than a gun store soon anyway.

Agree.  Probably won't even be able to pass them on or gift them to family in the near future.

It passed the Senate.  Now goes to the Governor for signing.

It gives til 2025.

How can we comply with something that doesn’t exist?

One might say “EXACTLY”

This bill does nothing for years.

Fill the state with pistols before it does start affecting us.

Hard to do when it takes 2 years to get a license and that time increases when they have to handle the
new semi-auto rifle licenses too.

Are some places taking that long?
The two I've been a reference on in the last few years took 3 and 5 months. Monroe county.

I was thinking a relatively large number of us here are already holders.

Anybody remember CoBIS??

Millions spent on a ballistic database of shell casings.

Never, not even once, used as evidence.

It’s not about solving crimes

It’s gonna be adefacto gun ban that takes years to fight in the courts

How could I forget. Every handgun had a $10 surcharge added to it for the "fired shell case."  Even revolvers

If the gun didn't come with a casing it was a three hour round trip for me to schedule an appointment with the state police and provide my ammo for the casing. You can get I charged more than ten dollars

That at least historically has not been the case. Onondaga from start to finish has been averaging a much longer wait time then 1 month.

Ask the people in the Maryland Hometown Forum.
They'll tell you that the law spent millions of dollars but didn't solve a single crime.

Millions spent for nothing.  Perfect Tammany Hall law for New York State.
