If you never, ever want to be home, abused like a madafaka and required to work on equipment you've never even seen, apply with Customer Engineering Services. You will get service calls all over the country, because their planners, supervision and support are ate up like a soup-sandwich. If you don't repair the equipment, without resources or knowledge, they will bitch at you and call you names.
Just a little "head's up" if you get a call from them. |

These guys were trying to get a field service division off the ground. Definitely worth a phone call. Also: GE Healthcare I used to do field service, over 20 years. Be sure you are OK with the operational tempo and travel interfering with your home life and personal schedule. Many think they are and they are not. Most of my interviewing was screening to be sure that applicants knew what they were getting themselves into. There is nothing like telling someone Friday they need to be on a plane Sunday. That is when you get to figure out how bad you really want the job. The boss doesn't give a shit about weddings, funerals, school schedules, soccer games or any other thing in your personal life. I have had days where I had to leave my desk and go directly to the airport with only my computer bag. (we FEDEX'd our tools) 
You will either live for the travel, or it will burn you down. I am still married after 30 years. Many coworkers were on either wife 2 or wife 5...........

If you want to work in the semi-conductor industry, look up ASML, ASM, Nikon Precision Inc., Tokyo Electron Ltd., Applied Material, BAC Edwards. All make machines that support that industry. All have constant openings for people willing to travel.
I did it for 6 years and that was enough for me. The money can be very good. Lots of OT available most of the time. Travel can and will burn you out. If you can get a job on a site, most work a 3-4, 4-3 12 hour shift. |

Try getting told at Friday at 4:30pm to be on a flight out that night to work standby as the machine becomes available to you, any time over the weekend because someone didn't plan on needing to do extra work. And we one of 2-3 people in the country trained to do that work. That is the real killer of personnel time that traveling tech's life. |
