My daughter and her husband (ret, AF) live in Tula Rosa wife and I have been talking about getting a place to go for some of the winter months, getting away from northern NH for a while. Daughter has been looking for us and also enlisted the aid of the RE agent they bought their home from. Thought I would ask here to get a more diverse opinion of the surrounding areas. We’d like to be within 45 minutes of her place. We’ve seen some nice pictures of homes, many have been on the market for 6 months or more. Looking for 2-3 bedroom, 2 car garage and maybe an acre or so but we’re flexible. Budget is $150-$200k.

I always thought the Bent area looked interesting.
Other than that look for a deal or find a chunk of land with a view and build.

ETA I would go a little further and grab something in Ruidoso if it were me.

My daughter mentioned both those areas. I really don’t want to build at this point.

Ruidoso would give you a property that your family could use when you weren't there for fun weekends maybe even if you there..
You could also rent it out.

Prices are descent too. Lots of places on the market there.
