Here's the link to Bismarck/Mandan Rifle & Pistol Assn.

http://nd.rifleshooting.com/

There is a lot more done than the pictures indicate.   The guy we had doing the website hasn't posted a new picture in 3 years.  In that time we've put up 180' of covered firing line, a 24'x40' storage garage, a 24'x40' picnic and assembly area, and a 30'x40' clubhouse. Links to picures below.

We have a 1000 yard Hi Power range, an 18 point Bullseye pistol range, silhouette ranges (pistol, rifle, 22, and hi power), a Cowboy action group, and the list grows.

Shed, picnic area, and club house.

Er, Gary's Gun Shop does have 'tactical' shoots, to limited degree. IPSC it is not, but they do have moving shoots every once in a while. I think it's either monthly or weekly. Or at least it was 6 months back; I wasn't that interested in it because it was kind of expensive.

Outside of Williston, ND there is a range that I have never found documentation on.  When I went there as a kid, it was an open range, free to the public, nobody to check in with, it was awesome.  When no body was there, you had free range of the place.  No directions to it, but I was able to pull it up on google maps:

http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=48.091062,-103.641881&spn=0.002429,0.004828&t=h&z=18

Latitude & Longitude: +48° 5' 27.82", -103° 38' 30.77"

Haven't been back there forever so not sure if it's still a range or not, but give it a shot.

About 4 miles into the National Forest on Victoria Lake Road off Sheridan Lake Road west of Countryside, Red Rock, and Whispering Pines has been a popular shooting spot as well.  However, recently an incident with some idiot shooting a cow as well as 7 new housing sites has raised sufficient safety concerns that the Forestry Service is shutting things down.  The spot has also recently seen improvements with a circular parking area and pavilion constructed.  However these will be used for posting trail head information and providing parking for hikers.  Shooters will be fined.  There has been some discussion that shooting will still be permitted much further in close to the junction with Route 365 but that hasn't been confirmed.

Farmingdale has two "benches" to shoot from.  Unfortunately the firing lanes not only overlap but if the shorter one is in use the longer one is rendered unsafe.  Go figure....

Beretta Road has recently seen a major cleanup operation with the National Guard removing fallen timber and large rocks.  In past years the area was plagued by idiots who would not only leave shooting refuse behind (targets, boxes, general trash, etc.) but use the area as a dump.  It wasn't unusual to see kitchen appliances hauled there for targets and left.  Fortunately there have been several community groups that have gone in there and cleaned things up.  Without them, the area was at risk of having shooting banned.  Cattle also will commonly move through the area to graze.

Buffalo Chip has a nice complex on over 250 acres.  Check out their website.  Single annual memberships start at $165.  Issues with availability of range safety officers allowing range use are improving with additional personnel being qualified.

Has anyone seen a new shooting area pop up around the Railroad Buttes area, Buffalo Gap National Grasslands. Since the shooting area was closed I see there is a map showing the closed area.  Just wondering if anyone has explored the area outside the closure area and found a spot that could be used.  Hard to find a area around Rapid City where u can shoot past 100 yards.

Hey guys, just moved to Watertown and looking for someplace to shoot. Been to the indoor range
here in town but they don't have the facilities for rifle bigger than .22lr. Anyone been to the
Outdoor Adventure Center down in Brookings? From the pics, looks like a nice place.
http://oacofsd.org/

or if anyone knows of an outdoor range close by, that would be great.
Thanks all.

Never been to the outdoor range in Brookings, but the new indoor one is very nice. A little rule heavy but they allow up to .308 I believe.

The indoor range at the Outdoor Adventure Center (now that's an oxymoron) is great! Rifles are no problem but it's only 25 yards so it's really only good for .22 or sight-in.

Beacon Hill is the outdoor range WNW of Brookings/Volga. The facilities are a bit rudimentary and the target backers always seem in disrepair but it's the only game in/near town. Hours are pretty limited so make sure you check their calendar online. Same with the OAC.

It's pretty nice, but I haven't been to any other indoor ranges, so I lack a frame of reference. Still, I had some decent range time. The programmable targets are fun, staff was respectful and accommodating. Pricey...

Late to the show, but I only visit SD to see family.  Was coming back from the Hills this past summer and spent the 1st night at North Point SRA, just north of Pickstown.  There's a free rifle range in the SRA, just as you come in the entrance from US-281.  It's not fancy, but looks like it would work.   25, 50 and 100 yard ranges.
