NY GOP is dead on the state level.
They backed the SAFE Act and old state assault weapon ban anyway.
I've heard elected GOP officials joke in private about having to pretend to care about guns. Meanwhile their staff talked about boycotting Hobby Lobby and Chick Fil A

It took me until the unSAFE Act passed with the downstate Republican clowns help to finally see the light. Unfortunately, it has spread to the the Federal level as well. There are a few genuine pro-2A Republicans in Congress but most of them use the 2A only as a fundraising tool. When they have had the power, they have done zero heavy lifting to get anything across the finish line. I noted in another thread that GHWB's Executive Orders banning MSR imports are still in effect. No Republican President after him ever repealed them.
I believe these days that just like the Democrat Party has become the party of Big Business, but refuse to admit it while secretly taking in billions of donations from private equity and other huge corporations, the Republicans are pro-gun control will not admit it in public. With the "silly season" approaching in November, there will be plenty of Republicans pleading for donations and promises to work hard for all kinds of pro-2A legislation. Those promises will evaporate as soon as the next session of the Congress convenes.
I find it incredulous that the Republicans cry they do not have the votes to pass the HPA or make substantial changes to the NFA. "It will be filibustered in the Senate" is the claim. Except the NFA is really a TAX law that falls under revenue. As such, it only needs 51 votes under Reconciliation to pass (as the Democrats have reminded us with their own programs, that are really taxes, and that they have failed to pass because they cannot garner the votes from Manchin and Sinema to get to 50 or 51).
