I have a pair of 24v HumVee lights mounted on my Kawasaki Mule. While they are truly 24v, they work very well at 12v!

There are probably a good couple dozen surplus 12/24v IR systems going back 60 years. Some of the scout/armor/NBC vehicle IR lights could illuminate several hundred yards as well as field lights in a football stadium.
The method of take mounted IR regulation on the book isn't "it is what it is."
It's an idiot's rule that should easily be corrected by reasonable (liability adverse) parties if they were to be given a practical demonstration of the technique they put on the books as a regulation.
I believe it was AL lost their night hunting over a NV related line of duty death to one of their forest rangers a decade ago.
