Sitting at a KY resort park. State owned property. When I’m on their wifi… no arfcom, psa or kygunco. What the hell?
Not so much their place their rules this time. Just went on quite the hike… came back to lodge and got the rest of my crew ready for pool… tried to relax with an Eagle Rare and arfcom. Boom - instant pissed offness. |

Which state resort? Yes they are owned and controlled by the state. Tyrant Beshear shut down all the resorts because of covid, pretty much killed off their restaurants, and they still aren't back 100% functionality yet. Kentucky Department of Parks runs them.
Which park where you at? Did you ask management if they are blocking access to sites on their wireless network? Don't tell them which ones, just ask if they are blocking sites. You will need a statement from them if you want to pursue a complaint. If you can verify they are blocking "dangerous sites" such as "weapons" then I would also contact KY Gun Co and let them know they are being censored at state parks. |

By some miracle for the first time - I’ve got signal… without using their wifi and back door arf site - I’m still posting. Just verified that I cannot load here or KYgunCo when switching to wifi. This is an absolute crock of shit. I’ll politely ask management- if they are here in the AM. |

Quoted: In your opinion - what's the most efficient way to get "a statement?" View Quote I doubt they would make any written statement to you, I would just record the date, time, and name of the person you spoke with along with any statement they made. I would just ask the generic question of are they they filtering out some internet sites. The person at the desk may not know or may not want to answer and will act like they don't know. If they give you that type of response make a note and then ask if the manager could get back to you with an answer. Your State Rep will be the best person to approach with that info like you mentioned. The resort could claim they are family friendly and using a 3rd party filter and try to shift the blame to them. However, for them to be blocking the site of a legal Kentucky business that seems like that would be a 1st amendment violation to you and the business and will be the best argument to make against them. If you get a statement post it here and I will pass it on my legislators as well. |

On tax payer funded wifi…
Whittaker “country” loads Buds gun shop does not Whittaker changed their website a couple years ago. Good move. Buds…(complete side rant) on the other hand… would not let me purchase a fishing pole in April 2020 when daddy tyrant shut down everything he could… except gun stores by statute. Buds - trying to be the good little compliant - only permitted what they were statutorily “permitted” to… blocked sales of fishing poles and sling swivel studs. |

There are at least 3 decent Republicans running and any one of them would be 100x better than Beshear. That said Savannah Maddox would be the most likely to keep everything open should any other type of virus hit. |

Correct in part… but I drove .5 miles to rural king and bought crank baits and another 3 miles to Walmart and bought fishing line and ammo. Buds could have sold me the same product instead of being a bitch. They had the same statutory right to be open as the other two. I have not made a purchase from them since 2/20 specifically for this reason. They could have let me purchase a crank bait and a spinning reel… but no. |

Bud's has never been the same since they moved from Paris to Lexington. A week or so after Sandy Hook they had AK's $1,200 get them while you can. I lost a lost of respect for them at that point. I get the panic buying but there was no ban in the works at that point and they were just selling pre-panic stuff at 4x the price. I know the health department threatened Bean's with pulling their license but I'm not sure what happened after that. At one business I know the sheriff said it wasn't their duty to enforce the health department orders so nothing was ever enforce, not sure if that was Bean's or someone else. At one point Brewed stopped selling all food and beverages as ordered by a judge. They were still able to sell their mugs and beans but nothing directly consumable. They stayed open as an "event space" just to give the city and Beshear the finger. https://foxlexington.com/news/brewed-stops-serving-food-and-drink-but-stays-open-as-an-event-space/ |

On one hand I was disappointed because I know I might not have been but on the other hand I was impressed at how seamless it was and she had a great approach that could neutralize most arguments. My concern is she is a Liberty politician going up against 2 different layers of establishment politicians. Cameron has strong ties and loyalty to McConnell giving him connections to donors and influence nationally. Quarrels has been long time friends with many of the top state level politicians and political people. Both also have strong name recognition. Maddox will need to push hard just to get people to know her name and that she is running for Governor. Then she will need grass roots efforts and donations to fund her campaign while the other 2 utilize their establishment connections. |

She isn't establishment and won't just rubber stamp their agenda. In that respect she would be similar to Bevin. However, she knows how to communicate and knows who to communicate to unlike Bevin. Bevin was a complete outsider to politics and thought he could just push whatever idea he wanted and Republican leadership would just follow him. It doesn't work that way. Savannah has first hand experience in how and why that doesn't work. I don't know that the knowledge could be used to be more effective with pushing the legislature to do things but it would help her avoid missteps such as calling a special session without even talking to the leadership and having a plan on what was to be accomplished. Bevin was his own worst enemy as he tried to do everything his way on his terms instead of trying to work with the leadership first. The leadership has strong ties with the federal and state level establishment, they will do everything they can to make sure Savannah's campaign is suppressed in every way possible. |

Received an email survey from the state park with his email supplied for questions or concerns… we’ll see. |

No response from state. Email sent to my rep and D91 rep.
ETA- when I get to my computer tonight - I’ll be sending an email to Centerfire, Anderson and KY GunCo since they were mentioned in my message to the reps. |

You might need to do an official FOIA request to force them to response to your question. You can find information on their Open Records policy and a form to send in on this page. https://parks.ky.gov/media
Email usually works for sending in the request instead of needing to do certified mail and paper. They have 5 business days to respond. The form asks you to describe the documents that you want to see. You could list something specific such as "All documents and emails related to restricting or filtering websites on the parks WIFI network" or you could just ask the question "Do state resort parks block or filter content on their wi-fi. If so what sites or categories of sites are blocked.". Either would be a good starting point to get some type of official statement. You could also add the question, "If sites are filtered/blocked who or which agency is in control of what sites are blocked at XYZ state resort?". It could be COT that manages it the network, it could be some family friendly 3rd party filter they are using, or maybe each resort uses whatever local ISP is available and utilizes their filtering software. Your response could be documents with no explanations, they may answer your questions, or they may respond that no documents were found on that issue. Be polite, assume they are trying, but don't expect them to do any more than bare minimum required. It may be a series of requests to get some specific answers. |

Issue resolved. The firearm related websites now load at this KY SRP. I confirmed this on the same devices yesterday. I have no idea if the other resorts follow suit however. There is a private company that maintains the wifi at the park.
|
|
I figured it would be some type of 3rd party issue. That way the state can shrug off all knowledge and responsibility for both someone accessing something they shouldn't or someone not being able to access something they should. Or to put it another way it isn't technically a first amendment issue if it is the fault of a private company.
Thanks for following up on that and getting the sites turned back on. |

I worked for a company that did some work for the state parks. Most of them had a ton of "groundskeepers" that just sat in the maintenance shed all day. One day when I was there one of them was shoveling leaves out of a dried-out pool. Dude demanded I shovel them for him. When I refused he complained to my company about me with totally made-up lies.
A vast majority of the parks had nothing of interest there to see, let alone make a trip there justifying a stay at their run-down lodges. Two of them had something mildly interesting I'd make a brief detour to see if I were passing by and had time to kill. I was always there on weekdays in the fall or winter but I don't recall seeing any guests at any of them. Many lodge rooms looked and smelled like they hadn't been stayed in in years. Their staff was inept; I had to make trips there for inconsequential issues that, in the private sector, are solved with a 2 minute phone call talking an average person through solving their problem. State Dock is the one exception. It's nice, seemingly well-run, and worth having. The boat ramp is great, the campground is nice, and the lodge is fantastic, great staff, and a lodge that people actually stay at. The marina on Saturday night of poker run is something everyone should witness once in their lives. Clarification; the state parks I dealt with were the eastern-most 10 of them. I didn't have any experience with the other 10. I suggest everyone here lobby our representatives to stop the waste. |

Interesting comments... it would seem there is nothing of interest near most of our parks for YOU.
If you consider the festivities surrounding the Poker Run at Lake Cumberland to be a highlight for you, I doubt any of our other state park festivities would interest you. I cannot think of any other state park activity heavily engaged in bikinis and alcohol. Side Note: The State Dock at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park is not run by the State Parks system. It is leased out and operated by a private company. |

the first thing i do when i buy a new phone is use alternate DNS Servers to bypass any type of filtering or possibility of being blocked
