Been waiting for this for months!!! I'm about 100 in already with a goal of 1k this year. Got about 525 last year.
Anyone else been out smoking them yet? My newest killing stick is a KIDD 22 with a Boyds Barracuda stock that I got off of Zidaho this winter. Sometimes I swear I can't miss with it. I have some other high end 22s and this one smokes them. You can't beat the Kidd trigger. I've had the top end Ruger, the Volquartsen trigger and others. They don't hold a candle (IMHO) to the two stage Kidd. Speaking of these Kidd triggers we just put one in a buddies TacSol. It's a flat, 2 stage. Turned that gun into the shooter that its supposed to be. I'm still getting tighter groups with my complete Kidd rifle though and it drives him crazy! I love it! Happy shooting. Remember.....you need a hunting license to kill these little savages. I've already been checked by Fish n Game. |

Was out looking for them west of Emmett last weekend but I didn’t see many. Just need a sunny day and hopefully they will start coming up to say hello. Always excited for this time of year when the pigs start coming out!

I'll be starting in a couple of days. I always forget to count. Good luck on your goal. I'm going to be doing a lot of handgun this spring so I imagine I won't be getting as many kills. It'll be fun though.
Pics to come..... |

Should we make this the official spring varmint kills page?

I drove through one of my areas today and didn't see much, it was still kind of cold and the wind was blowing about 20mph..
I broke my phone Saturday. If anyone has texted me I'm not ignoring you, I just can't see shit. I have to wait on the Apple Care to send me another. Should be here today or tomorrow. |

I FINALLY was able to get out today, saw 2 on road on the way in but when I got out there it was just too cold and windy. I could hear a few but they were hiding after two and a half hours I got ONE! Just happy I didn't go home empty handed! I did see one about 300 yards out so I took a shot with my AR but (insert excuse here) I missed.

Just found this page. Glad there are others who love poppin' the piggies as well. Only been out once this year so far, a week ago, saw a few when driving south of Kuna, but when I got on site, only saw two more with poor shooting opportunities. Going to try and get back on them with my Kidd 10/22 or my t-bolt that loves slinging stangers.

Lungbuster - Dilly dilly, Ya'll will have to give me a clue on an area to bag me a rock chuck or two. They are definitely on my bucket list. I had an invite to go shoot some last year around Twin Falls, but I was unable to make it....dang it.
Well - I'm up to 259 whistle pigs. Last Wednesday after work I jammed out to the desert and bagged 51 of em with my 17hmr. I had two firsts out there....finally! I FINALLY got a double and I FINALLY got one that was standing in the top of a sage bush. I'd seen them do that before, but never hit one. I actually got two in the top of sage, but one was so close I couldn't miss. I went out again on Sunday and it was brutal. I only got 13 before I packed it in. Cold, and windy. Fortunately I took the 17WSM. So I played around with some long shots. I got one at 186 yards. Took several shots,,,but finally got it! What model Kidd 22 do you have? I sure do love mine! |

I have the Kidd Classic Ultra Lightweight Sporter 16.5" in a tan Magpul stock with a Vortex 2.5-10x32 scope. I'm going to try and get out there today and do some "social distancing" ;)

Okay, that's freaking unreal. I've been pouring over maps trying to find a legal spot to try this. By the end of this lockdown I hope to have found some of these critters to shoot.
Those are AWESOME photos bro! What guns/calibers were you shooting with? Distances? |

I mostly use rimfire for ground squirrels only now. Both 17hmr and .22lr. For shooting across the canyon I use .22-250, .204 Ruger and .243. With the .22-250 getting 80% of the work. 50gr V-max with 38.5gr of H380. The .204 is shooting 40gr Vmax with 26gr of Benchmark (I think). I don't use my .17 Remington for varmints anymore, the Berger bullets I have are too precious to waste on anything but fur that I want to put up. Berger quit making the bullets my rifle likes and @Eric_Mayer found the last couple of boxes in America for me, so they have to last the rest of my life. 17 caliber is best caliber.... An awesome place to hunt but it's hard to get to. 24 in 10 hours makes my hands cramp just thinking about it. That's a lot of skinning. |

Took the day off to go out today.. of course it was overcast and windy but I was still able to get some good shots in.
I'm using the rifle I put together this year, 18in WOA barrel with their intermediate gas system, AR Gold trigger and Vortex PST II. Attached File The 18in barrel adds just over 300fps over the 12in I was using last year and that's enough extra oomph on the 50gr Vmax to.. well here see for yourself I ranged this at 173 yards Attached File This one I think I just got the side of, 189.5 yards Attached File |

View Quote This is a 223 but the added velocity of the 18in barrel is just devastating. With my 12in barrel and the same 50gr VMax the wound wasn't that much different than a 42gr 22lr subsonic. Here's one I took last year with my 12in mini-recce with the same ammo Attached File It's amazing what that extra 300 fps brings to the table. I should have taken a picture of this guy that was stupid enough to walk towards me. I ranged him at only 20 yards which came out to about a 2.5mil holdover. Because I was pretty much shooting straight down when the bullet hit a big dust cloud hid what happened and I thought I hadn't calculated the holdover correctly because there wasn't a body when it cleared. As I was leaving I walked over and that round had torn him apart and thrown him about 3 feet to the other side of the mound. |

I got a few today. It was nice weather. Killed about 50 or so.

It’s in between Mountain Home and Bennett mountain. It’s kind of hard to get to so I rarely see people in the area.
Dilly and I were talking about doing a hike from one end of the canyon to the other. It would be a tough hike. |

View Quote There will be a tater season but I, and most everyone else, have had our contracts cut back. I'm down 400 acres of spuds from last year, nearly half of my spud acres. A good deal of that is my fault. I am going to lose a lot of money this year but God and the corn/barley market willing we wil have the money to pay the bills.
