If you come to Des Moines for the night, let me know. We'll meet up for sure. Maybe shoot Sunday before you head back?

I still haven't shot that 30-30.

DOE SMG and M16 shorty will be there.  XM177 might make an appearance too.  Anybody interested in taking them for a test drive should bring some 9MM and 5.56MM.  Steel cased works just fine.

Probably going to bring either an M1 or my JRA BM59.

ETA-if there's gonna be a full auto lower there would it be possible to put my .450 Bushmaster upper on it for a bit?

The BM59 has a bit of special significance to IA. When I ordered it I was hoping for a cool serial number. By luck of the draw, the rifle next on top of the pile when I ordered was serial number 1133.

I never got deployed but when I was in the Guard, that was my unit.

Very cool.  I've never handled a BM59.  Always thought they were pretty sweet.  Looking forward to seeing it if you are able to bring it with you.

Just saw this update. I would love to join up, would be coming from the Iowa City area. Could bring some fun toys! Nothing full auto though stuff like SVD/Tigr, 601 clone, rpk74, T2 AK, suppressed mk18 or MK12.

Any of you guys want to help a fellow American out?  I have a stock 1911A1 that needs to be shot.  Anybody that wants in on this gig just bring some .45 ACP and you are welcome to put as many rounds down range as you would like.  Again, steel cased is OK.  I'd like to see how it functions with that.  You get it dirty-I'll clean it.

Shoot, been on the forum for years but just starting to pay attention to the IA forum. I'm getting married in 3 days and June 29 is the day we'll get back from the honeymoon. It'll take some crazy convincing the new wifey to be able to make it. Sounds like lots of fun with some cool and unique toys that will be there! We'll see what I can do. I'd love to meet everyone!

i have two weber 22" kettles and ceramic egg smoker.  i can have charcoal ready for both, so if something needs cooked we'll need to coordinate that a bit.

what needs are there for that beyond quick stuff like burgers or brats?

It would also be advantageous if somebody could bring a large tarp or several small tarps.  These really help to facilitate clean up after a shoot.  There will be a wheeled magnet available for any steel cased stuff.

We are gonna try and have at least one of the BMG's there and available to shoot.  If you want to shoot one you will need to bring some 8MM ammo.  Romanian or Yugo surplus is preferable.  The African stuff that has made it's way to the US recently is NOT acceptable.  Way too many hang fires with this stuff.  We should be able to link it for you if that needs to be done.

Looking forward to seeing everybody Saturday.  You too Booger.

OK guys, change of plans for the 1917 BMG.  I posted earlier that it might be available to shoot, just bring some 8MM ammo.  Septic and I have discussed this and decided that it will be safer and more prudent to make the gun available as a rental.  This way we will be using known source ammo.  Some parts for this gun are getting close to 100 years old.  They are getting scarce and some are not even available anymore.  If something breaks it has to be replaced and the rental scenario is the only sensible way to do this.  If anybody wants to shoot this gun it will be on a rental basis.  I don't want to run afoul of any rules here about advertising prices.  Just know that it will be comparable to past events.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

i have some AR500 steel slung from conveyor belting on the other side of the pond @100yards.  they need to be lifted up, as they are laid over at the moment.  there is one that is a 24"x24" with an inside round 8" dinger that needs to be take over there as well.  someone can hop on my atv with a buddy and drag that one over there saturday morning to set up.

i have three or four really great welded target stand bases made from galvanized goodies. BUT, no 1X wood stock or cardboard for them.  ...used it all up.  if someone wants to bring that "1 bys" and cardboard backers for your targets, that stuff works like a dream.

that's the kind of thing the helpers can do on saturday morning real quick and i doubt that'll take but just a few moments.

we'll have a couple guys get on each corner of some pop up canopies and make it work that morning also.

looking forward to saturday...

I can see about getting some 2X2 foot cardboard squares at work. Dividers from between the layers of meat we get in, I shoot lots of them. Both .45-70s will be coming(rifle and handgun) and my BM59.
ETA-found out our meat packaging changed, we don't get the dividers anymore.

Really sorry you guys couldn't make it.  Hope Kalahnikid gets well and you don't catch it.  Pretty sure he could have sweat that bug out today!

Another successful gathering.  Great food, great people.  Thanks to all of you that made the scene.  Even with the heat you all pitched in made it happen.  Thanks again for being a great group of people that are fun to spend a hot day with, shooting, eating and conversing.  Now that I've sat in the A/C for a while and consumed an appropriate quantity of cold adult beverages...........when's the next one?

Wouldn't be able to shoot there but there's a park up my way near Elma that would be great for a cookout. We have a nice range on the edge of Cresco too, but I'd have to talk to the county about the chance of taking it for an event. More than willing to look into it.

My son and I had a great time and appreciated meeting up with both new and familiar faces.  My son managed to catch a few nice fish from Michael's pond and shot a machine gun for the first time .  Many thanks go out to Michael & Jenny for hosting, Strongarm66 for being very generous with some really nice machine guns & to everyone who contributed to make the event a great time.

Those of you on the fence about whether or not to attend one of these events, you really should.  You are missing out.
