Quoted: /media/mediaFiles/sharedAlbum/tumblr_lka9rhi8aT1qadbq2o1_400_GIF-121.gif I think we've got 6 confirmed people at this point. The goal is to roll out by 10, I think it makes sense to leave from the camp site. As far as exact location, if one of the guys who have been there wants to pick one or two targets for campsite cool, otherwise I can try to scope out a couple spots. Tree Hugger, sounds like you'll be the first one there if you're still planning on going out Friday night so you'll have first dibs View Quote Here is what I have: Plan: Optional Camp Friday, Depart the main [non-primitive] campground (I dont know if they are named?) at 10am. Spend just under 2 hours toiling with weighted packs across 6 miles and roll into the range area wearied, but not beaten. Take a break, possibly shoot (I dont know if their range is as busy as the ones around here on Saturdays, but it might be packed). Either have a staged vehicle or two to ferry our wearied souls/soles back or tack on another 3.5 miles. Going: Bigbryce31186 Domnior Tree-hugger connor327 woodxdm Flak-Magnet Camping (Friday Night): Bigbryce31186 Domnior Tree-hugger Flak-Magnet Camping (Friday and Saturday): Tree-hugger Im pretty certain that you can only tag like 3 people at a time for it to work (I read it in GD so it must be true). Tagging for previous interest: @Mattgunguy @1787 @Dab2 |

Quoted: I'm not out, just gotta get some shit in life straightened out first. View Quote Sounds good. Anyone out there who is interested but undecided, remember that you do not have to be carrying full or any weight to join us and if you don't think you can make 6 miles then the route allows for you to return to camp sooner if needed. I hate to do it, but I have to cancel. My sister is having my nephews birthday this weekend. She didn't tell me until today of course.

I should actually pack useful gear in my pack lol.
Currently just 40lbs of books. Guess I'll aim for 45 this time. Probably just add ammo to meet it. |

Quoted: Hey idk how i missed this yall. I was thinking of setting up an apc styled group in MO lately. I went to VA lobby day and am Good friends with members of the va, il, and other state groups. If yall want a place to hike and shoot and wear all your gear, I have access to a 200acre shooting range we can hike all over and shoot during the hike. Also camping on site is cleared as well. In Iberia, MO. I host Cola Warrior Flyover there and also just had a day/night range day/class there this weekend. Also interested in standard hiking, Ive been doing 5 miles 2x a week with 45lbs. Maintaining 3-4mph. @thegunslinger @55_s2k_shawn @detrhoytMAK @TATBME View Quote Thanks for the mention in the post below this one, @shelbyguns Hell yeah, brother. I can't make one this weekend but let me know of future endeavors. I'm in! Sounds fun. |

Shelby hit me up about this one, but I'm booked this weekend...
Def keep me posted for next go around! You guys have any hills? Shelby knows I love climbing hills in full gear lol. Also is there an intermediate spoon position since it appears that big and little spoon are both spoken for? |

The campsite is on State Forest RD and should be the main one with the Privy and 51 campsites. I am glad you mentioned that as I assumed everyone had looked at my awesome graphics. Quoting the original post with new graphics Quoted: Hike routing: So Here is what I found. From the main campground (the one with gravel pull-ins in the center of the area), if you proceed along the marked path, and include a .5 mile detour to the bluff then the distance from the campground to the range is just over 6 miles. If you proceed from the range and complete the loop (including about .75 on one of the forest service roads), the entire loop is just about 9.6 miles (the screenshot says 9.4, but i also cant get my app to traverse the starting .2 miles from the campsite to where it sees the trail as starting - the trail does exist according to satellite and the conservation dept map). Additionally, there is a smaller 3.5 mile loop from the campground. This sets up the scenario where we can start from the campground, and then have a point (roughly 2 miles in) where people who only want to do a provisional hike at 3 miles can cut back along the road. Those going the full 6 miles can then proceed along to the range. Once there, we would have completed a standard 6mi APC hike. If we wanted to do range things, we could (assuming there is room on the range) and we could spend time there without worrying that our hike time is impacted since we already did one. If we have a vehicle or two staged there, then those desirous of a more brutal hike can then proceed the remaining 3.4 miles back to camp and the others could be ferried back to camp. |

I apologize for this, but I had some family matters pop up this week that will not allow me to be out of town on Saturday. I will have to bail on this camp/hike.
I am definitely going to be hiking on my own and be looking out for the next event! I am still interested! |

It was awesome to meet all of you and form the bonds that only shared hardship can do. Special thanks to @Tree-hugger for bringing the mobile command center chairs and food!
Lessons learned: 1. It gets really dark out in the middle of nowhere around 7:30pm and there is not much signage. Probably should plan next time to arrive in the daylight so I can avoid disturbing the Amish/Mennonites in the dark. 2. We should have a food plan. I had a single burner backpacking stove and some mountain house. Great for being alone in the woods, but if we were relying on that, it would have been a problem. 3. Hills are hard. Hills are fun. Hills go best at the beginning of a hike. The big hill would have been even less fun around mile 5 or mile 9 (lol). 4. Chest rigs (even my cheap condor) are surprisingly comfortable with a pack over top. 5. I liked @shelbysguns suggestion of carrying the slung rifle to the side instead of in-front. It worked well except I bruised my elbow (which I didnt feel) while holding it to the side. 6. Apparently young horses are skittish around moving people. Im not sure how to tell a young horse from an old horse other than looking at it's mouth. So im not certain how this knowledge knows. 7. The people who show up to these events are awesome. |
