HB1240 banning "assault weapons" has sadly passed the legislature and is about to be signed by the governor. It will ban bringing most semiautomatic rifles into the State.

EXCEPT for rifles already here when the bill is signed. Those can be taken out of the State and brought back in by the same person. There is no requirement that this individual be a resident of WA.

So if in any way your guns happen to be inside WA when this bill is signed, and you do something to prove it (a photo with a newspaper?) you're grandfathered and will always be able to bring that gun in and out of WA.

Just FYI

Well, they are just going to be “Doing their job.” If they take it away from you and make you prove it’s grandfathered in court. But hey on a positive note whomever takes it away from you probably can just fill out a short form to keep it themselves - at least that’s the way it works elsewhere…

Hate to say it and not necessarily encouraging people to come here but it’s past time to get out!

I have been looking into moving to NW Idaho, and was thinking I’d need to visit Spokane a few times a month for personal issues.

if I obtained a CCL from Idaho, how would this new WA law affect me driving into Washington carrying a concealed pistol with a greater than 10 round magazine? Is just the “evil hi capacity” mag banned, or any pistol that can accept one?

(I assume there’s no way to have an AR15 or AR style PDW or even most semi auto shotguns in my vehicle?)

Thx in advance any advice.

While not legal advice, I can say that with a SCSD in the family and having met many Sheriff deputy from Spokane co. None of them would give any shits about how many rounds you were carrying. unless you were a shitbag.

If you want to follow the law, carry with 10rd mags. Nothing in there about “ability to accept”. Any pistol with a threaded barrel wouldn’t be a good idea nor an AR.
