I had a mouse move in recently so I put down some additional glue traps, I found this one in one of my traps this morning, I think it might be a rat snake but I'm not sure.

I don’t know, I’ve never been good at snake identification. I’ve always maintained a policy of kill all snakes - regardless of size, threat and even potential harm I may do to myself; absolutely hate the little bastards.

As long as they are in the wild I leave them alone, they are very beneficial, its when they come in the house my attitude changes.

The head looks wrong pattern for an Eastern rat snake. I'm guessing maybe a prairie kingsnake. Was the belly tan, yellow or something else?
If it's a kingsnake it's definitely a good one to have around. They immune to pit viper venom (rattlesnake, copperhead, water moccasin) and specifically hunt them for food. The more kingsnakes you have, the fewer venomous snakes you have. |

The description says tan or brown, they show one in tan, my example is brown, the markings on the back are almost identical. |

Black rat snake. Good one. Dishwashing liquid should free it from the glue.

I've caught a garter snake, and a couple of little house geckos that I have been able to free using vegetable oil, it works very well to work them loose. I wasn't able to save this one, I try to free them if I can but you just can't save them all.

I used to have a pet corn snake aka red rat snake. Was such a good snake, rarely pooped on you. Seems trivial but it's a sign of affection. Sort of.
