In a few months.  Looking forward to it but apprehensive at the same time.

My wife is from there and it's time to leave here.  See y'all soon.

Thompson Falls.  My wife is from Baker.  She's always wanted to live in a log cabin in the mountains.

ETA being from NC it's a bit intimidating.

I've driven through there a few times. Nice area.

IIRC, if you are separating, they'll pay the same amount or less for a move to your HOR, no matter where you're going.

If you're retiring, I think you're g2g no matter where in the US. I think. It's been awhile.

Make sure you have defendable space (for Wildfires) on your property. The lower Clark Fork is prone to lots of wildfires.

Pretty country but comes with some idiosyncracies.

There's a nice golf course there.

Watch out for the BH sheep on 200 between Plains & T-Falls.

It's Griz country so don't put any attractants outside & easy for a bear to get to.

There's short-cut to I-90 in the summer via 471 up & over the ID state line to Wallace.

You'll be 1.5 hrs from Flathead Lake to the NE and the same from Lake Pend Oreille just across from the ID state line.  Both are big and Pend Oreille is 1,000 ft deep on S/SE side. The USN tests submarine deisgns there.

Plus there's three places on the river that are reservoirs the first at T-Falls, and the other down-river going towards ID.

If you're bringing a boat make sure it's cleaned, drained & dry and inspected since MT is trying to keep invasive critters out od the state, especially the west-side.

The Clark Fork valley is stunning in the spring.  Very lush and green.  If you are a backpacking or hiking guy, you will be at the base of the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness.  The Cabinets are awesome.   If you need a tour guide, send me a message.  I am on a mission to see every drainage and lake.

I'm seeing that hunting season is much shorter out there.

Also, I bass fish the creeks around here but also saltwater fish.  What can I fish for out there?

You can hunt "something" pretty much year round. Coyotes are non game and can be hunted year round.

Big game season starts as early as 1st of Sep and runs till the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Mountain Lion ends some time in Feb.

As for fishing it's already been covered, but if you throw a worm on a hook into the water I'll break the rod across your ass.

I'll bring a fly rod and show you the proper way to fish.

Roger.  For what it's worth I only hunt critters that I eat.  And rarely except for pond fishing use a hook and worm.

Game on!!  I try everything once.  Only thing I can't stand  is sauteed moth cacoon. Had it in Korea.  Tasted like sweaty socks.  Not that I've tried that.

ETA when I was stationed in Kalifornia I tried to get a tag for a BH.  No luck though.

Well damn, we'll practically be neighbors.

Wife and I are moving the family closer in to Kalispell (from Twin Cities in MN). South/West side of the valley maybe to Marion or just in the hills west of Kalispell proper.

The time for Conservatives to remove themselves from cities has come. We are no longer welcome.

I'm in Kalispell now after having lived (not in order) in the Yaak, Whitefish, up the North Fork of the Flathead, Troy, Martin City, Ovando, Missoula, and out by McGregor Lake. I know several people who live in and outside of Marion.

Let's hook up. Beers are on elcope. (Just kidding, I still owe him lunch!...)

As far as cities, Kalispell is gtg. Great bunch of people. You won't find it a drag coming into town.

Hell ya. We’re planning on having our current house on the market in April. It should sell fast. Then it’ll be a scramble to get a place in the Flathead, get the rest of the house packed up and head out there. Assuming everything goes well, we should be out and settled in by June.

We took a trip over Labor Day weekend last year and saw Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Missoula, Kalispell, Helena, and then spent the last day tooling around the Red Lodge area after taking the Beartooth Pass. ~1500 miles in 5 days in a rental Tahoe .

Kalispell had the best feel of any of the cities to us. All the stores needed to get things done, but drive 15 minutes in almost any direction and you’re in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nature. Perfection.

I'm in Kalispell, but spend a bunch of time around "T-Falls".  Give a shout and I'll try to make it down to help unload.  BTW, you'll be just up the road from the Noxon Reservoir.  That is THE walleye hot spot of western MT.
