Yes.  Cool stuff.

I went to Bass Pro in Springfield today.  An amazing place.  Only spent ten minutes in the NRA Museum but geeked out on a few exhibits.  Have to go back and spend a lot more time there.

Bah, photos want to go sideways. No photos to share.

Future reference: there's another decent firearms museum at the College of the Ozarks, just outside Branson.

Hanz,

Any updates as you travel through?

I have a business in Chesterfield, a home in Dardenne Prairie and a farm in pike county.

I fled the socialists state of ILL in 2008, to get out before Obama got in.

I can't accurately describe how pretty some parts of Missouri are.  I stumbled across the Blackjack Access Conservation Area in Saint Clair County and stopped at a little overlook before you hit the river.  Very pretty and peaceful.  Rolling pasture with scattered patches of trees and creeks.

I've only looked at a couple of places and I think I'm being too picky for someone with my budget in this fast paced market.

Oh, I don't know what it is between JP Morgan Chase Bank and Missouri but it's not the bank to use if you're in Missouri for sure.  Very few branches.  I did end up driving to Kansas City for one so at least I had an excuse to get some barbecue at Joe's.

I have been enjoying the process and I'm really looking forward to getting settled and riding my motorcycle around.

I wish I could post an update with more substance but I haven't been to productive.

We live just a little south of there in Cedar County, near Stockton. We like the rolling terrain in this area. As far as banking, we use US Bank. We banked with them when we lived in Illinois and were pleasantly surprised to find that they also serve this area.

Thank you for the recommendation.

Very nice terrain for sure.

That's quite a loop for a fair sample of the terrain.  There's more that's not obvious.

My wife and I are reconning the western counties to put us closer to KC.  We'll probably land roughly between Bolivar and Clinton.

We grew up not far northwest of Ava.

Here's a favorite spot in the Gasconade River in Wright County -

https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/348/65691.JPG

Since you're shopping, I have to recommend a drive from Washington to Hermann on H. 100, then west of Hermann on 100 to Jeff City.  With some side trips into the hills along the way.

I live in St. Charles County and I'm starting to believe this is one of the premier locations in the country for quality of life.  The county park system is incredible and getting better every year, and the cities are adding their own improvements.  It won't be long until the greenways connect for biking that can't be beat.  We even have an astronomy park.

The downside is the cost of real estate here, although it's no higher than Columbia or regions near the lakes.  The county votes reliably Republican.

In any case, I'm fond of Missouri.

I replied to your post but it got lost in space.

Beautiful area but, unfortunately, out of my budget.

I've camped in a couple of state parks and I have to say Missouri does a great job of running and maintaining them.

I'm pleased to report that I'm under contract for about 10 acres of woods in Buffalo, MO.  I expect to close the first week of August.

The place is on gravel and outside of city limits.  Springfield is about 35 minutes away.

I hope I'm not jinxing myself when I say I'm pretty excited.

You'll be about 35-40 minutes from all sorts of stuff. Trout fishing in Lebanon. Sailing on Lake Stockton. A bit farther to all the swells at the Lake of the Ozarks. Truman Lake is nearby, too.

Thanks.  Being from Long Island, I have to realize I don't have a huge bottleneck in my way of (NYC) to go most places.   I'm looking forward to exploring on a motorcycle and riding until I'm lost and then falling back on the GPS to get me home.

I'm now a MO property owner

Closed on the property today but couldn't get my MO driver's license because I didn't have my Social Security Card.  At first my disappointment made me but then I realized that means illegal aliens can't get a MO DL and I was back to

Anyone have a recommendation for an Internet Service Provider besides Starlink in Dallas County?  My cellular service is pretty thin here.

Since you haven't done it yet, I suggest taking whatever you need to get a Real ID.

Good luck with that. I was hoping i could direct you to your lical electric co-op but I don’t believe any of the co-ops in your area offer internet. I just bought a home served by Callaway Electric Co-op and they offer fiber. Woo-hoo! It should be better than what i get in town.

The electric Co-Ops do a real nice job.   My neighbors have Ameren and we have Co-op.  My power is on more reliably and is cheaper.

I was just on Missouri's Real ID site to see what's needed to get a license renewal.

Under the Social Security card or other form of ID.

Is a military form DD214 which has legal name and also SS# on it, is it a form that can be also used to show name/social to help get a new driver's license?

The Q&A didn't have anything about military background forms being able to show as proof of citizenship -- along with birth record.

Yes, I know one can join the military and not be an American citizen, but the DD214 will still have a SS# on it as proof.

I just looked through the site, and the renewal card they sent me, and I don't see a DD214 mentioned at all. It doesn't lool look like they accept it.

A valid, unexpired Real ID from another state qualifies you for a Real ID in Missouri:

Welcome to Missouri. I escaped Illinois back in 2009.

RE Real ID, I just use my passport when flying. Pretty sure that's all the Real ID is good for.

Ask your neighbors what cell service they use. Out here in Ozark County, AT&T works good.

I too bank with Chase and picked up a local bank in town who I transfer funds to, for when I need cash.

It's true that a passport is a substitute for a REAL ID. But a passport is less convenient to carry.

BTW, you also need a real ID to enter a military facility, if that matters.

A Real ID is not hard to get -- his current NY Real ID will suffice -- so I don't see any reason not to get it.

As I'm always carrying and there is usually a gun in my vehicles, I avoid military facilities - in the USA.
No need to carry a Passport all the time. Just when flying.

Thanks guys. That helps.

I'm on AT&T and have a single bar of LTE Service here.  Even my telephone calls fade in and out.  But, I'm ok with that if I can get some better.

My SS card is currently in Ohio.

I also want to buy a 40' Connex Box.  After reading the threads in GD it sounds like I'm in for an adventure.

I love seeing the stars at night and hearing Owls and Coyotes.  That's the good news.
The bad news is the sellers didn't secure a moving company so we renegotiated and I'm emptying the trailer into a 30 yard roll off.

The plus side of that is I've gained a zero turn mower, Stihl trimmer that won't start, 3 thirty round AR mags, 2 Beretta Pistol mags, a Marlin 22, and a Cap Lock Muzzle Loader  (likely a Lyman) and a smattering of ammo.   Oh, there's also a Tactical Tailor PVS14 pouch, two Kevlar helmets and some battle gear.

Some of the household items and furniture I can yard sale but most are due for the dumpster.   I still have two rooms to get to.   Time to get at it.

Did you know member Fenucho from Long Island?

He was here visiting relatives in Wentzville in December 2012.  I gave him a tour of Benchrest and some local gun shops.  He shot the 600 yard swingers with my .308 Win 40X, got a charge out of that, and said he planned to brag to his friends back in New York.

Nice guy, but I haven't heard from him since.
View Quote
I don't know anyone by that name.  Or maybe I know them under a different name from one of the gun shops I worked.

600 yds is triple the distance you can shoot at any range on Long Island. He should have been bragging.

I saw a sign for totalhighspeed.com so I called and spoke with a guy named John.  He said he could get me Internet service fast enough to stream video for $75 or $100 per month with about $300 in set up fees.

I didn't expect the monthly service fee to be the same as Starlink.

I'm on Southwest Electric. When I opened an account for electricity no one mentioned Internet. I'll call them and ask if that's something they do.

They don't show it on their website.

Some co-ops do, some don't. I'm confident they all will eventually, but it takes time and money to build the system and some haven't been able to do it yet.

Is that a local line of sight internet provider?  We have one of those here and while it works, I expect it to be obsolete when starlink is available.  Our electrical co-op is also putting rural broadband fiber in but that's a 4 year project.

Yes, local line of sight.  It was neat that they are month to month without a contract.

Like everyone, else I'm curious how quickly Starlink will catch up with their orders.

Went to Menards in Springfield yesterday.  I have never been in one before.   What a cool store!  Tool section selection put Home Depot's to shame.

Went to a couple of MFA Farm and Home stores (Fairgrove and Buffalo)  Browsing the isles I realized I know next to nothing about agriculture and livestock.  Even fencing was an education.
