They've been having bad problems this year with mud slides taking out parts of I-70 in the mountains. Very hard to predict when it will re-open, as we've been getting some nasty afternoon thunderstorms that cause more mud slides. Best advice I can give you is check Denver news, and CDot's web site.

Quoted: Seems they have interstate 70 closed from rifle all the way east through the canyon. Cotrip says flash flooding dangers. I am in Utah about to head that way tomorrow. Anyone know how long it's supposed to be closed? I-76 and I-70 were a pahkin' lot this week d/t accidents in denver as well. |

I’m in Avon this week with a friend and it got hit yesterday. Monsoon rains and mud everywhere.
Glad I was down the road in Breckinridge. |

Latest is closed indefinitely due to damage from rock and mudslides in viaduct section.

I've had to travel back and forth from Silverthorne to Basalt lately, and these mudslides are a real bummer. South via Independence Pass or north through Steamboat. Add two hours to your trip planning.

There was damage to the post tension cables in the upper deck (west bound lanes) so it'll be a while before that's repaired and open.
They may divert west bound to one lane of the east bound for single lane each way eventually. But haven't heard anything new lately. |
