Is it legal for me and a buddy to use radios to communicate car to car while driving around looking for a place to hunt?

The says you can not use them to coordinate the movements of other hunters, but it does not state if this only applies to the woods or not.

I do not know but would you really want to risk it?

If you are only looking for places to hunt at a later time, not same day, I see no problem. Looking for game and then converging on that area is not legal.

I've lived somewhere where radio use is very common.

I'd say you'll be fine.  I even think it's acceptable but gray area to use it to signal start of drives and walker positions for safety reasons.

We don't drive deer. I hate drives. I've felt the wind off 1 too many slugs going past my head. We just still hunt.

I'd radio away then.  From what I undertand the DNR has really lightened up on it.  I just wouldn't say anything to the likes of "The big one is headed over such and such hill.."

Why not just use your phone?

Cell phones are listed with radios.

Besides, it's easier to key up a mic than place a phone call, especially when driving.

But a lot harder for others to listen in without a warrant
