Sorry to invade your private area folks () but I "discovered" M.R. James a few years ago (As well as the whole "Ghost Story For Christmas" "Thing") and have watched pretty much every movie ever made that was based on his stories ("Oh Whistle And I'll Come To You" with Michael Hordern is my favorite) as well as the various audio books available on YT (Again, most read by MH ["Casting The Runes" is terrific]).  Is he still well known there and do you folks still try and scare the crap out of each other with his stories around Christmas?

There's a name I haven't heard in a long while. It's been many years since I last read anything of his (I was still at school and I'm ancient now according to my kids).

I don't hear of his stories being told now, I guess they may not have translated to the modern screen-age so well or the interest isn't there.
But you've given me inspiration for my next read - I've just downloaded his "Complete Ghost Stories" and see if I can remember any.

Well I guess I hope that you enjoy yourself ()  What struck me so much about his stories was that they were written so long ago (I mean, people 130yrs ago were reading his stories by gas light!) but that they READ so contemporary.  Very cool.

Whistle and I’ll come to you is a complete classic. Never tire of watching that film. Check out James Herbert for more modern stuff.
