I just started a thread in Team with details about a man who is taking advantage of my mother. I wanted to cross post here to see if anyone could help steer us in the direction of a good attorney, who could help protect her from him taking even more of her money, although she will most likely not be cooperative.

He has been taking her money in the name of his "mission." She is already down about $180,000, most likely to him, and if he succeeds in getting her to sell her house, she will have nearly nothing.

Any assistance with finding a good lawyer for this, or any advice on what approach to take would be greatly appreciated. More details are here in my Team thread. https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Help-with-mother-being-taken-advantage-of-Elder-Abuse/75-2477826/

Thank you.

Is she of "sound mind"?

Elder abuse is one thing and from what you are describing, this doesn't sound like it. Elder abuse is more of physical nature. (I may stand corrected of this though.)

But if she is not of "sound mind" it may be time to get a conservatorship over her.

She does not have any diagnoses, but there is a lot of evidence that could lead to that. I can't imagine that it is a pretty process, and we would like to avoid that if possible, but it is definitely on the table.

We have a friend at Legal Aid Knoxville who is looking as well, but I was hoping that someone may know of a specific attorney or firm that specializes in this. I will try the TN bar website as well.  Thank you.

No, it’s not pretty nor is it very cheap. But at the end of the day you have to figure if you stop this guy, who’s the next one to come along and try to fleece her?
