Voted at my usual place in Pell City. Drivers licence was scanned for ID, then the fellow who scanned it tells the lady next to him: "He gets a #5 ballot."

First time I recall them electronically scanning a licence or handing out a certain type (#5) ballot.

Anyone else do this at your polling places?

They did it to me, I think it has to do with the state house district votes. Some counties may have more than one district.  I didn't get to vote against the guy I wanted to because of it.

I'm guessing that may be it. The poll worker called the #5 thing after he looked at the electronic readout just after scanning my licence through it.

My polling place served 2 districts.

Different people and whatnot to be voted on, so different ballots.
