Here on the island it is weird. You have heavily blue areas and heavily red areas. The Town of Oyster Bay, that covers the eastern third of Nassau County, is mostly Republican. The Town of North Hempstead in the northwest corner is mostly Democrat. The Town of Hempstead in the southwest corner flips around. It was a staunch Republican enclave for decades, former Senator Alfonse D'Amato had been Town Supervisor in the early days and former County Executive Thomas Gulotta had been too IIRC. It had been Democrat a few years ago but flipped back. The cities of Long Beach and Glen Cove are basically Democrat. As such, the county has a habit of flipping back and forth between Democrat and Republican control depending on turnout.
Our County Executive, two execs ago, was Ed Mangano a Republican. Last County Executive, Laura Curran was Democrat. Current County Executive, Bruce Blakeman is a Republican and told New York City that Nassau County IS NOT taking in any immigrants. I notice that Mayor Adams is focusing on the north and not the east.
Eastern Suffolk County tends to be Republican and handily re-elected Lee Zeldin for years. Their current congressman is also Republican. Middle of the island it gets wishy washy. Brentwood and Central Islip are Democrat.
