One I haven't got is a monster and smart. Need more marsh mellows. Used half a small orange last night.

Peanut butter is one of their favorites.  They will take a licking for some Pb!

@kc1911

Thanks for the peanut butter idea.
Took 3 marsh mellows with peanut butter on the end and stuck them on the door activator pedal.
Figured coon might lick the activator and trigger it.

Coon be not too happy this morning. He was a vicious lil f'er.

I see you had success, but another good idea is a small can of cat food fastened to the trip lever. Crack open the can for the aroma to attract the raccoon and attach via the pull tab. It frustrates the critter that it isn’t a quick snatch and run. So more linger time to activate the trap.

Raccoons in my area are too big for standard feed store live catch traps. Converted a large dog carrier with a drop door frame and trip line mounted in the back. Hanging can of cat food for bait.

if you have a monster one like the op, that would make a nice hat.

I will use pb as sort of a glue and put a cookie on top of the peanut butter on the trip plate of my live trap.

What I've been doing. Still catching the darned things.

Been waiting for a bear to stick his paw in there and have to wear a cage around the neighborhood.
