Spending more time down that way and curious about sawmills, lumberyards, lumber stores that have a good selection of hardwood and or plywood. Where do you recommend checking out? I've been spoiled by hobby hardwoods north of Huntsville.

Check out Avondale Hardwoods. It was started by the guy who used to run City Hardwoods. He went off and did his own thing after CH changed their focus. They’ve moved on to being more of custom furniture shop.

Roy Lumber in Bessemer is a good source for vintage wood and custom cutting.
