Michael,

The committee that had been holding up SAPA met today and voted out HB 85, the House version of the Second Amendment Preservation Act.

It is fourth on the "House Bills for Third Read" calendar in the senate. The next step is to go before the whole Senate for final approval by that body.  We expect that process to go smoothly, since last week's trial run of the Senate version went so well.

HB 85 will probably go to the Senate floor early next week.

Once it passed the Senate, it will need one more vote in the House, but that should be easy.

If you want to help, the best thing you can do at this point is call your Senator and tell him or her to vote for the Second Amendment Preservation Act with no additional amendment.

In liberty,

- Ron

This is great news, but I'm not holding my breath. We need this to pass, and pass now!

Absolutely onboard with this Senator. She's got her common sense hat on for sure!

My Senator says she is fully in favor of S.A.P.A. and my Rep. is retired MSHP trooper and he is 100% in favor.

Yep... at least it's nominally on topic.

Horrible for a senator to have to suggest she calls on another senator though.

Seems like the debate has turned from the 2nd amendment preservation to domestic violence.

Bunch of wusses... onto the next business because they want to stop the fillibuster. Should have just ran down the clock for the rest of the session.

Seems like this just died over this, I'm I missing something that they died on this hill over not wanting to mirror the federal DV statues?

Its held over... in theory it should be picked up for a vote. Probably after the amendment is withdrawn upon agreement to take up the issue next session. Personally I'd have been asking her a whole lot of voting rights issues... if just one person is denied their right to vote...

looks like the senate added an emergency clause so it should law as soon as the governor signs it, instead of the normal Aug28 inactment

Was the emergency clause the amendment? What happened with the Dems poison pill amendment?

Answering my own Q's...

2 poison pills voted down
Current amendment looks to be the emergency clause

House will have to vote tomorrow.

Emergency clause means it goes into effect immediately after signing, as opposed to a specific date?
