I just stumbled across a video of a commercial grower in Alberta, Canada, and it gave me a little inspiration to consider building a greenhouse here.
In year's past, my wife and I have planted gardens, and also done tomatoes in buckets, strawberry and basil plants, and various potatoes, onions, green beans, and peppers. Would it be worthwhile to build something like a hoop house that is free-standing or use the long side of my construction trailer? The reason I'm thinking of using my trailer is it could be 10'-12' wide and provide a reflective surface on the back of the greenhouse. What would be my best course of action? |

How big are you talking? What are you plans and budget to heat it? That is really the biggest expense, keeping it warm enough at night to not stress the plants.
For commercial quality components this site has been great. I've only bought trays and containers but they have everything. https://www.greenhousemegastore.com/ This site has cheap greenhouse kits, including one that you would mount against a house or like you mentioned a construction trailer. https://www.aosom.com/category/greenhouses~787/ I've been looking at this 10'x20' kit for $239 and they have 10'x26' kit for $299. Very cheap, I wouldn't expect them to last very long if left up year round, but up for a few months in the spring they might. https://www.aosom.com/item/outsunny-20-x-10-x-7-freestanding-high-tunnel-walk-in-garden-greenhouse-kit-white~845-233WT.html ![]() |

Thank you. I'm going to have to look at the available designs and figure out what I can use best. |

I helped my dad run a commercial greenhouse for a couple of years. The comment about heating is spot on. Depending on size a double layer plastic affair (two layers filled by a blower) is extremely heat efficient.
If you can control temps (including cooling in the summer - usually a couple of pulling fans on one end or both ends) you'll get very consistent results. I can't really comment on small scale operations tbh. |

There are cost share programs available for them as well if you want to put up a high quality one. 30x96 by me is about 12k with full install and a gutter/water storage system.

I ordered to 26'x10'x7 green house kit. Fed Ex sent me a notice that I have a 90 pound package on the way. I'm not sure how or if I will try to heat it. You really need a double wall version with an air blower to keep things insulated.

Will you be showing it off in the LTI restoration thread? You're welcome to throw some pictures in here as well. |

I have the green house, it has been sitting on the side of my porch for about 3 weeks now. it came packaged in 1 five foot long box that weighs about 90 pounds which is why I haven't moved it since it was delivered. I would hope to get that setup in the next week.
