I live in TN and my fiance lives in NC. She has expressed interest in getting a handgun. I'm not sure what she needs to do on her end (like get a permit to buy, ect) but if she is really interesting I'm sure the gunshop will tell her what she needs to do. We have an extended visit coming up and she said she wanted to go to a shop/range and see what she likes best. I got to thinking if she likes/shoots well something that I have that I would just give it to her. Now my question is can I just take the gun and her to a shop and the FFL transfer it into her name once she has completed whatever she needs to do to posses a gun in North Carolina? Might just be weak Google-fu on my part but everything i see is about FFL to FFL transfers. Can anyone shed any light on how this?

First, she'll need either a pistol purchase permit from the sheriff of the county she resides in or a current NC concealed handgun permit.

Federal law requires that for out of state pistol purchases the seller either has to find a FFL in the buyer/recipients state of residence that will accept a firearm from an out of state private party and then transfer it to the recipient or have a FFL in the sellers state that will take the firearm and transfer it to a FFL in the recipients state of residence and then transfer it to the recipient.
