I think the blacksmith in your photos is the husband of one of my wife's cousins. He does a lot of living history stuff, and has a small forge at home.

I always thought the arrangement of the fortification like that, with the "pickets" sticking out horizontal only made it easier to scale the "wall"
Sorry I didn't read your post earlier or I could've told you what to expect. I've been there many times throughout my growing up and have seen
this encampment, a large French encampment and even a Civil War cavalry charge ( that I don't think ever happened at that location though I
know they captured some steamboats at Wetumpka during Wilson's Raid.

Lot's to see with the encampment and Bartram's Nature trial with an overlook of the Alabama river and if you walk WAY in the back, a burial mound
