Stopped on there last night, had never heard of it before.

Food was ok, but loved the atmosphere.

Anybody been or know the history?  Is it legit or like a BRCC type situation?

I live just down the road a little bit and have never tried it.  This thread will give the wife and I an excuse to do that.

I will be in Williamsburg for week in early January, so I will check it out. Sounds great. I'll report back after I've been there.

Article says that The Cheese Shop isn’t serving sandwiches because of labor shortages.

Wife and I frequented Food for Thought when we lived in Williamsburg for two years.  Food was solid, breakfast/brunch was our preferred meal.  Service was always great, atmosphere was always great.  They were able to cater to my wife's food sensitivities too (gluten, dairy, oats).  This was 3 years go, not sure how they've handled the pandemic.  Hopefully well.  Managers took service and food quality very seriously too.

We miss Movie Tavern, Food for Thought, and Pierce's BBQ the most.

I’ll have to stop by and try this restaurant. I have a house on the other side of the James in Surry so I’m always spending time in the Williamsburg area.

The Movie Tavern and Pierce's are still just as good as you recall!

I went there for an early dinner last Friday, after they had been closed for a week to give their staff a break, they said.  Great food and drink.  Good selection, too.  I will definitely go back.  They will be closed Tue-Wed for the foreseable future, which I assume is because it's the off season for tourists in the area.  Most of the restaurants were really not busy, and it seemed mostly locals this time of year.  Big difference from when I have been there in the summer.

I don't think they are siding with liberal or conservative views, and try to give a balanced presentation of quotes and books.  For example, there were some books on display when you first come in, and there was a book about the dangers of socialism or something like that, right next to a book with a subject that started with "Woke".  I didn't look at them closely enough, as I was seated quickly to a table, by their very attentive and friendly staff.

Other favorite restaurants of mine in Williamsburg are Sal's by Victor, Another Broken Egg Cafe, and Shorty's Diner, as I visited those a couple times each, and try to go to them each time I am there.  Food For Thought is now in my list of "must return", too.

Was in town right after Christmas and my son and I went to Movie Tavern to see the Matrix movie. Movie aside, I wasn't impressed with the food at all. The last time we were there it was all my son could talk about for a years, so it was kind of shocking. The menu was incredibly paired down, didn't list any drinks, and was just ho-hum. I'm not sure if it was because we went in the middle of a weekday and they have their full menu later in the day/on weekends, but it kinda sucked. They also don't have menus anymore and require you to use an app to order which was a little annoying. I'd say download it and do the signups before you go to the theater just to avoid any hassle.

Otherwise, the theater was comfy as I remembered and everything related to watching the movie was great. We'll go again next time we're there, but we'll probably skip the food.
