Extreme Shock .223 100 Grain Advanced Subsonic Product Ammunition

CLINTWOOD, VA ––(Ammoland.com)- Extreme Shock is at it again, we have improved the .223 100 grain ASP (Advanced Subsonic Product).

In the ASP’s inception, Extreme Shock designed the bullet to function the Colt M4 battle rifle at subsonic velocities in full automatic.

However, due to it’s popularity, shooters was using the round in various weapon platforms. However, there is a quite a difference in the military M4 as opposed to commercially marketed AR-15 series of rifles. The military M4 chamber is larger than the commercial ARs.

Gun-Packing Santa Draws Fire

Plywood Display In Turlock Creates Controversy

TURLOCK, Calif. ––
A painted plywood cut-out of Santa with a cowboy hat and a gun on his belt is causing quite a stir in Turlock.

”I tried to get the image out of my head all day long and I could not, because Santa is made for love, bringing families together, not carrying weapons,” Monica Sliva said.

The Santa is one of many displays that line Tracy’s Christmas Tree Lot on Monte Vista Avenue.

UTAH LEGISLATOR WANTS 'STATE GUN'

State flowers, state birds, and now, if Utah State Rep. Carl Wimmer has his way, Utah will have a state gun. Wimmer has announced intentions to propose a bill when the legislature convenes next month that would create a state firearm, specifically the Browning Model 1911 .45-caliber handgun, designed by John Browning 100 years ago.

Bushmaster and Thompson/Center Arms Factories to Close

Two New England gun-making facilities will soon close their doors. The operations of both Bushmaster (Maine) and Thompson/Center Arms (New Hampshire) are being relocated to other facilities owned by their respective corporate parents.

Bushmaster Plant in Maine to Close

First, the Freedom Group, which owns Remington, Bushmaster, Marlin and other companies, announced that it will close Bushmaster’s Windham, ME facility, "effective March 31, 2011″. According to an official press release: "The Company will relocate manufacturing of all Bushmaster products currently produced at Windham to other, existing Freedom Group Facilities. The move will have no impact on customers or the existing supply base.” John B. Blystone, Chairman of the Freedom Group’s Board of Directors, commented: "We are continuing to adjust our operations in order to remain competitive…. Given increasing costs and pricing pressures affecting the entire firearms industry, this action is clearly necessary[.]”

T/C New Hampshire Facility To Be Phased Out

Smith & Wesson, parent of Thompson/Center Arms (T/C), is pulling the plug on T/C’s Rochester, New Hampshire operation. The Rochester factory will be phased out starting in January 2011, and finishing before the end of next year (2011). T/C production will be switched to Smith & Wesson’s Springfield, MA facility. Some workers may be relocated, but most will lose their jobs. According to S&W Mktg. Service Director Paul Pluff: "We needed to streamline in order to make our company more efficient and profitable.” S&W Human Resources VP Bill Lachenmeyer explained that the plant closure was due to a big decline in T/C sales over the last three years. S&W invested heavily in the new line of T/C Icon hunting rifles but the Icons didn’t sell well. Likewise sales of T/C’s signature Encore and Contender tilt-breech hunting pistols declined in the economic downturn

Virginia AG Wins Court Challenge To ObamaCare

–– Ken Cuccinelli also Supports GOA's "Read the Constitution" Petition

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli won a major victory today when a federal judge in Richmond ruled ObamaCare's individual mandate unconstitutional.

Of course, this battle over the anti-gun national heath care law –– which could allow the government to disarm many gun owners based on medical records –– is not over. Twenty other states, led by Florida, also have legal challenges to ObamaCare, and this issue is guaranteed to go to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Certainly, the decision in Richmond is good news for the Constitution and good news for all Americans.

Attorney General Cuccinelli also recently backed GOA's effort to get the Congress to read the U.S. Constitution at the start of the new session in January. We could hope that had the 111th Congress read the Constitution, there would have been no ObamaCare.

Justice Breyer says Framers would support ‘gun control’

"Founding Fathers Would Have Allowed Restrictions on Guns,” the Fox News headline announces.

It’s reporting on claims made by Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, one of the dissenters in both the Heller and McDonald cases, as he hawked his new book "Making Democracy Work” on Fox News Sunday.

James Madison didn’t really mean it when he included the Second Amendment, Breyer would have us believe. He just included it, presumably with his fingers crossed, as an appeasement gesture so the Constitution would be ratified.

NRA Licenses Germany’s Krüger to Produce Official NRA Targets

The NRA has licensed Krüger Schießscheiben (Krüger) to produce official NRA targets for use in Europe and worldwide. Krüger, a family-run company based in Dillingen/Saar, Germany, was the smart choice. Since 2004, Krüger has been the official target supplier of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF). Krüger currently produces targets for a wide variety of disciplines: air pistol, air rifle, running target, 300m centerfire, and both rimfire and centerfire benchrest. Sportsmen Welcome Lucas as House Ag Committee Chair

Oklahoman’s leadership critical as Congress formulates 2012 Farm Bill and agricultural- and private-lands conservation programs important to fish and wildlife.

WASHINGTON –– -(Ammoland.com)- WASHINGTON – Sportsmen-conservationists across the country are welcoming news that Rep. Frank Lucas has been elected chair of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership announced today.

With jurisdiction over federal agriculture programs, the House Committee on Agriculture administers funding for critical natural resources policy such as the Farm Bill, the conservation title of which is the single-largest source of federal funding for conservation on private lands in the country. A lifelong farmer, Lucas is the first Oklahoman to chair the committee, on which he has served as a member since he first was elected to Congress in 1994.

United States Should Shoot Down U.N. Small Arms Treaty

The Obama administration recently appointed a negotiator to work with the United Nations on a treaty to regulate international trade in small arms. The ostensible goal is to staunch the flow of illegal weapons to drug cartels, terrorists and guerillas.

This proposal is consistent with the 1997 Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Firearms Trafficking in the Americas (CIFTA) signed by President Clinton, but never ratified by the Senate.

The Obama administration reversed the policy of the Bush administration, which opposed U.S. participation in such a treaty as a matter of principle and policy. The World Bank estimates that there are more than 500 million firearms available worldwide, but many countries do not disclose information on firearms manufacturing, sales or exports. There is no evidence that U.S. participation in the small arms treaty would do anything to decrease the illicit flow of small arms, but it would threaten citizens' constitutional right to own and use firearms. For instance, such a treaty might require federal licensing and registration of any firearms possessed by individuals.

Police treat pro-gun bumper sticker as probable cause for pat down

A Second Amendment advocacy leader has released video of his encounter with Sandy Springs, GA police during a traffic stop. Daniel Almond, founder of Restore the Constitution (which includes what the Brady Campaign’s Paul Helmke described as a polite armed Second Amendment rally among its achievements) was pulled over for speeding and a broken light over his rear license plate. That’s when he was ordered out of his car to submit to being frisked.

This is me getting stopped by Sandy Springs PD for speeding. The second thing the officer asked me, after asking for my license, was if I had any firearms. I responded that I was choosing to exercise my right to remain silent on that question. That answer prompted the officer to have me get out of the car for a pat down. The officer told me that the reason for his question (about firearms) was because I had a "right to carry” sticker on my car. Yes, he actually said that. It’s a sticker for Georgia Carry.org (GCO) Although the audio isn’t 100% clear for that part, you can clearly hear him reference the sticker when talking to me and to another officer. Additionally, it appeared as if "back up” had been called, because there were 3 police right cars behind me and two more across the street. In the end, I got a ticket for speeding and for not having a working light bulb over my license plate.

Show that Gun Owners support of Ken Cuccinelli by signing his petition to Stop the Mandate!

Dear Friend of Liberty,

By now, you’ve heard about the victory of Gun Owners of America's good friend, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

It was the 21st Century version of the "shot heard ‘round the world.”

Fifteen minutes after the anti-gun ObamaCare was signed into law in March, Ken filed suit on behalf of Virginia. Earlier this week in Virginia, a federal judge ruled that the healthcare bill’s provision forcing citizens to purchase health insurance is unconstitutional.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ve won the war in repealing ObamaCare and reining in the federal government.

Like those shots in Lexington and Concord that kicked off the American Revolution, the opening skirmishes over ObamaCare have just begun. We’re in for a long fight against those who want to suppress freedom and liberty today.

The federal government will inevitably appeal the Virginia decision – and the case will ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court.

Ken Cuccinelli is a true fighter in the cause of liberty, and when he served in the state senate he led the charge in defense of the Second Amendment. And now he’s reminding the federal government that it was created by the people and the states, not the other way around.

I hope you will take the time to lend your name in support of Ken’s effort.

As we continue fighting for liberty, our opponents in the liberal media are determined to marginalize Cuccinelli and halt his success. They have already begun to attack him – and we can’t let their misrepresentations go unchallenged.

We need to continue to show that Virginia’s case has the support of the people. GOA stands with Attorney General Cuccinelli as he takes this case to the Supreme Court.

Virginia has a winning case to protect individuals from an unconstitutional mandate. And an ultimate victory over ObamaCare will keep federal bureaucrats from using a medical records database to disarm law-abiding gun owners.

Please show your support of Ken Cuccinelli by signing his petition to Stop the Mandate! Visit http://www.cuccinelli.com/index.php/stop-the-mandate to sign the petition today.

Thank you for your help and support.

Sincerely,

Tim Macy

Vice Chairman

ATF to Require Multiple Sales Reports for Long Guns

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is moving to require federally licensed firearms retailers to report multiple sales of modern sporting rifles beginning January 5, 2011. Specifically, the ATF requirement calls for firearms retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days.

Today’s Washington Post suggests that the reporting mandate would be limited to retailers along the Southwest border; however, the Federal Register Notice does not limit the geographic scope of the reporting requirement

Anti-defense lobby seeks to nullify Second Amendment when it’s needed most

"Brady Center Urges Court to Dismiss Lawsuit Seeking Right to Carry Guns During Riots and States of Emergency,” a Dec. 16 press release from the anti-gun group declares.

"The Second Amendment does not grant a right of vigilantes to take up arms on our streets during a riot or state of emergency,” said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

On this much, Helmke is correct: The Second Amendment grants no rights. It recognizes them, and declares they shall not be infringed. But on examination, the rest of the hysterical Brady claims fall apart

Feds Seek to Implement Unconstitutional Power Grab

The Obama administration just can’t stop blaming the Second Amendment for violence perpetrated by Mexican drug cartels.

In the latest brazen attempt to circumvent the Constitution, Obama and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) are seeking to implement rules that will subject American gun dealers to even more onerous paperwork requirements.

A new proposed rule will, for the first time, establish the precedent that licensed firearms dealers will be required (by administrative fiat) to report to the government the sale of two or more semi-automatic rifles that are .22 caliber or greater, can accept a detachable magazine, and are purchased by the same person within five business days.

In a move that bypasses the elected representatives of the people (the Congress), the new rules could be instituted by regulatory fiat as quickly as January 5, 2011.

This idea was concocted more than a year ago by New City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group that only seems to focus on punishing legal gun owners.

Even worse, the final decision on implementing this plan will be up to the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), headed by Cass Sunstein. In 2009, GOA opposed the confirmation of Sunstein, who would like to ban hunting and allow animals to have legal representation in court.

This mandate will not only violate federal statutory law prohibiting a federal gun registry, it will also give the BATFE another excuse to harass American gun dealers, while doing nothing to address the problem of border violence.

Drug cartels are financed to the tune of the billions of dollars. They finance disposable submarines, tunnels between the two countries, and large shipments of weapons from rogue nations. Cartels have bribed Mexican officials at the highest levels to the tune of millions of dollars, and have taken effective control of entire cities in Mexico. To suggest that adding yet another layer of paperwork requirements to U.S. gun dealers will help to stem the violence is ludicrous. This is simply another attempt to ratchet down on the right to keep and bear arms.

The Second Amendment is not the cause of border, drug-related violence. And as violence increasingly occurs on our side of the border, Second Amendment rights become even more important for self-protection.

Gun Owners of America is submitting comments opposing these new rules and is urging members of Congress to slam the brakes on this proposal.

ACTION: Please urge your Representative and Senators to oppose this abuse of federal power. Click here to send a pre-written letter that includes two specific steps that members of Congress can take immediately, and it also urges them to prepare, if necessary, to push legislation to overturn this unlawful act.

It is especially important for licensed gun dealers to take these actions, so please pass this alert on to your local gun store.

ATF CREATES ONLINE FEDERAL FIREARMS REGULATIONS TRAINING VIDEOS

ATF has created an Online Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide Learning Theater. This website is not intended to replace the Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide, but is designed for use as an interactive tool for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) and others. This online training reference guide will provide FFLs with assistance in complying with the federal laws and regulations governing the manufacture, importation and distribution of firearms. NSSF is encouraging all retailers to view this training device with their staff.

SAAMI SUCCESSFUL IN ADDRESSING CHANGES TO AMMO SHIPPING REQUIREMENTS

The United Nations has adopted changes to international ammunition-shipping requirements sought by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI). The rule change essentially protects the industry from a shift in U.S. shipping regulations that potentially would have cost the industry $300 million per year. The net result is that while the regulations will change, shipment of ammunition in the U.S will continue without additional fees and handling requirements. The change harmonizes U.S. regulations with international requirements, reduces overly strict shipping requirements by truck and vessel and facilitates shipment of ammunition to consumers worldwide by parcel post. Federal Court Of Appeals Ruling Deals Blow To Wildlife Conservation

(Columbus, OH) -The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned a lower court ruling which protected active wildlife conservation efforts on National Wildlife Refuge lands.

In 2007, environmental groups filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) after the FWS had restored wildlife watering devices within the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona on lands designated as "wilderness areas.” The watering devices are critical to the survival of bighorn sheep and other desert species.

The groups’ lawsuit claimed that the Wilderness Act prohibited the FWS from constructing the watering devices because the Act required that wilderness areas be left totally unaffected by human activities.

Second Amendment attorney: ATF’s proposed long gun ‘emergency’ regs illegal

"A recent initiative by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has caught the attention of national media outlets,” ATF’s Acting Director Ken Melson writes in the bureau’s announcement of demand letters for multiple sales of long guns in border states.

I wanted to make sure everyone heard from me about this law enforcement initiative so there isn’t any confusion.

There’s no confusion, Mr. Melson—at least among people who heed Patrick Henry's advice to "guard with jealous attention the public liberty.” But that doesn’t mean those trying to find out more about the initiative won’t end up confused, as a report from GunLeaders.com demonstrates:

So we’re looking at 2.5 weeks to generate comments on a regulation of this magnitude? During holiday season? No online comments for this regulation. Congress to recess in mere days. Nicely done.

"Just Keeping You Safe": The Cheka (aka KGB) Checks In

"What are you doing here?" Paul asked the armed stranger who had materialized outside his workplace.

"Just keeping you safe," replied the interloper, who had invaded the property without invitation or explanation.

The visitor was clad in what Paul described as a SWAT-style dark blue jumpsuit, mirrored sunglasses, and a baseball cap. He had arrived in a white SUV equipped with running lights and displaying police markings advertising that it belonged to the Department of Homeland Security.

Through sheer tenacity Paul managed to obtain a business card identifying the visitor as Mark Cerchione. His title is –– take a deep breath –– Inspector for Region 10 of the East Command for the Department of Homeland Security's National Protection and Programs Directorate, Federal Protective Service. This vital human cog in the State's apparatus of public order has an office located at 550 West Fort Street, Room 370 in Boise.

Bonidy v. USPS: Postal Service Moves To Dismiss

Last week, Department of Justice attorneys representing the U.S. Postal Service filed a Motion to Dismiss the suit brought contesting the ban on firearms on Postal Service property. This suit was brought by the Mountain States Legal Foundation on behalf of Debbie and Tab Bonidy as well as the National Association for Gun Rights.

The Bonidys live outside of Avon, Colorado in an area which does not receive home mail service. As a result, they have to pick up their mail at the Post Office in Avon where they are provided a free mail box. The Bonidys, both of whom have Colorado concealed carry licenses, want to be able to carry a handgun for self-protection on the way to, while, and upon returning from picking up their mail. Current postal regulations prohibit possession of a firearm on USPS property including the parking lots.

Budweiser to Sponsor SHOT Show Press Room

NEWTOWN, Conn.—Budweiser and the National Shooting Sports Foundation have announced a new two-year agreement that will make Budweiser the official sponsor of the SHOT Show press room.

The agreement provides Budweiser with space in the press room to demonstrate its support for hunting and shooting and its Conservationist of the Year Award. The press room serves as the communications hub for the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, which attracts more than 1,700 members of the media—the largest gathering of outdoor press in the world.

"The Budweiser brand and Anheuser-Busch have a long history of supporting and giving to organizations that are actively making a difference to conserve and protect the environment and the shooting sports," said Bob Fishbeck, senior Budweiser manager. "For more than a decade, we've been proud to partner with the NSSF to develop shooting safety programs while promoting ethics in and around the field."

Budweiser will be a familiar presence at the show, where it has sponsored many NSSF and SHOT Show-related events over the years.

"Budweiser has long been a good friend to our industry and hunters and shooters across America and a champion of wildlife conservation," said Chris Dolnack, NSSF's senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "Budweiser belongs at the SHOT Show. We're thrilled they will again be sponsoring the press room."

Media coverage of ATF corruption investigation developments nonexistent

A whistle-blowing agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has received a response to his Freedom of Information Act request to find out how much money the agency is spending with the private law firm of Delany, Siegel, Zorn & Associates to handle Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaints against the bureau. He received back 15 redacted pages, a representative sample included as a photo in the sidebar.

So much for good faith transparency.

You won’t find this story in any newspaper or network. The coverage comes to us from the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog as it follows developments on CleanUp ATF.org.

Shania Twain wedding displays elitist attitude toward guns

"Shania Twain didn't exactly have a shotgun wedding yesterday in Puerto Rico ... but it sure was a pistol –– as in what the guards were packing on the beach during the ceremony,” TMZ.com reports.

We’re told there were "several armed security guards.”

Funny—the one we see with the pistol tucked in his belt appears to be in violation of Puerto Rico firearms law, unless slacks and a T-shirt are considered a "uniform”:

Provided, that in the case of private security guards who hold a permit to carry, are uniformed and in the exercise of their duties, they may carry the weapon in plain sight.

But here’s the thing about the privileged Ms. Twain employing armed guards (lawbreaking or otherwise) in the first place—she’s a big advocate of infringements against those of us who can’t afford an armed security presence and must rely on being our own first line of defense.

Media disinformation on guns continues in Texas open carry hit piece

"Sitting down for dinner at any Texan diner, in my experience, often involves guns,” Rachel Stewart of the Tarnaki Daily News (New Zealand)informs her readers.

I can't recall the exact number of times I have eaten a meal in the immediate company of a man, or men, with shooters on their hips in plain view. For me, I am always equal parts spellbound and queasy.

Spellbound because there is something so fundamentally cowboy and western about it. Guns, freedom, country music and the Second Amendment. It is Texas after all. Yeeha!

More on ATF Multiple Sales Reporting

An editorial in today’s Washington Post discussed the recent decision by ATF to require federally licensed firearms retailers along the Southwest border to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of most semi-automatic rifles. Specifically this would impact .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days.

Though the Post supports this ill-advised proposal, it did acknowledge the legitimacy surrounding one of industry’s objections:

"When reports of its plan surfaced, the administration came under immediate attack from the gun rights lobby. The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry trade association, argued that the administration lacked the legal authority to demand data on rifles and shotguns. It has a point: While Congress authorized the ATF to collect information on handgun sales, it declined to extend the requirement to long guns. A court is likely to be asked to decide whether demand letters may be used to shake loose this information …”

OHIO SUPREME COURT RULES FOR INDUSTRY

In a court ruling Wednesday, the Ohio Supreme Court upheld the state's preemption law (which prohibits municipal gun ordinances) by ruling against the City of Cleveland, which had attempted to establish its own restrictive gun-control laws. NSSF filed a legal brief in support of the 2006 state statute that provides that only federal or state law may regulate firearms. NSSF joined the Ohio Attorney General in arguing that the statute clearly expressed the General Assembly's intent to provide uniform statewide firearms laws and prevent municipalities from creating a patchwork of different firearms-related ordinances across Ohio.

Anti-gun Advocates In Senate Seek Rules Changes

–– Action would clear the way for semi-auto bans, guns show bans, gun licensing, and ammunition bans

Make no mistake about it: Procedure is power.

The reason we are not stuck with bans on semi-autos, gun shows and ammunition is because the U.S. Senate is structured so that whatever party is in the minority still retains procedural power to protect the rights of the citizenry against the "tyranny of the majority."

But on January 5, 2011, at the beginning of the new Congress, Senate Democrats are hatching a plan to decimate long-standing Senate rules in order to remove those protections.

The linchpin of the plan would be a ruling by Senate President Joe Biden that the Senate is not a "continuing body" and therefore has NO rules –– other than whatever 53 Democrats and Independents might unilaterally adopt.

At the core of their efforts will be an attempt to abolish the "hold letter" –– at least as it currently exists. Pro-gun senators have used "hold letters" in the past to kill proposed gun show bans, semi-auto bans, ammunition bans, gun licensing requirements, registration lists –– any number of anti-freedom initiatives.

Basically, a hold letter allows a single Senator to slow down movement on unconstitutional legislation, so that it can't be rammed through before the American people can voice their concerns.

Gun banners may also try to reduce the number of senators required to shut off filibusters of anti-gun measures. And they will do this in the expectation that the Second Amendment community has been preoccupied during the holidays and, thus, won't mobilize in time to stop the plan.

Again, procedure is power. The rules that currently exist in the Senate have been designed to slow down unconstitutional legislation –– and this is in keeping with our concept of checks and balances. Thus, not all rules changes are automatically bad, since anything that slows down the galloping herd of gun control is a good thing and should be supported.

To this end, Senator Jim DeMint may offer an amendment to the rules that would prohibit anti-gun legislation from being passed in the Senate, unless two-thirds of all senators vote to consider it. Now that's the kind of rules change that we can support!

An Email from Lucky Gunner.com

Do you live in California or know someone who does?

As everyone probably knows by now, the legislature of the People's Republic of California passed a restrictive bill in October of 2009 called AB 962. AB 962 attacks the heart of 2nd Amendment rights by cutting off or severely restricting the circulation of ammunition to the freedom loving people of California. Unfortunately, the Governator signed it into law!

What does this mean to you? If you live in California, it means that in 27 days:

  • You will not be permitted to directly receive shipments of certain ammunition by common carrier (UPS/FedEx). This means no more internet orders!

  • If you want to purchase certain ammunition, you will have to provide a thumbprint and description of the ammunition purchased as well as present a photo ID.

  • The restricted ammunition (including popular calibers like 9mm, 45 ACP, 40 S&W, 380 Auto, 38 Special, 357 Mag, etc) will most likely be very hard to find or more expensive.

If you don't live in California, be thankful..... for now. But forward this email to everyone you know in California.

Summary: Stock up while you can find it and afford it and store as much as you can in ammo cans.

BATFE Request To Track Semi-Automatic Rifle Sales Delayed

Friday, January 07, 2011

As we reported on December 17, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has proposed that it be given emergency authority for six months to require about 8,500 firearm dealers along the border with Mexico "to alert authorities when they sell within five consecutive business days two or more semiautomatic rifles greater than .22 caliber with detachable magazines.” A Washington Post story reporting on the BATFE proposal described that definition as being applicable to "so-called assault weapons,” but it would also apply to many rifles that have never been labeled with that term. The rule change was to have started this week, but has been delayed by the White House.

According to an article on TheUSDaily.com, the White House Office of Management and Budget was expected to approve the rule change on Wednesday, but an official told Reuters that "ATF's information collection request is still under review,” and declined further comment until the "deliberative phase is concluded.”

The reporting requirement apparently was to be imposed under the "authority” the BATFE has used in the past to demand reporting of other types of transactions from certain limited groups of dealers over the past 10 years, but the new proposal is far broader than any previous use of this authority.

National Defense Authorization Act Passes With Pro-Second Amendment Provisions

Friday, January 07, 2011

On December 29, 2010, Congress sent the 2011 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to the White House for President Barack Obama’s signature. The legislation includes several provisions developed by NRA-ILA and pro-Second Amendment members of Congress, which will provide practical benefits to gun owners, while generating revenue for military bases, and protect the privacy and Second Amendment rights of gun-owning military personnel and their families and civilian employees of the Department of Defense. President Obama is expected to sign the NDAA imminently.

Protecting the privacy and Second Amendment rights of military personnel, their families, and other DOD personnel: Section 1062 of the Act prohibits the Secretary of Defense from issuing any requirement, or collecting or recording any information, "relating to the otherwise lawful acquisition, possession, ownership, carrying, or other use of a privately owned firearm, privately owned ammunition, or another privately owned weapon by a member of the Armed Forces or civilian employee of the Department of Defense” on property not owned or operated by the DOD. It also requires, within 90 days, the destruction of any information of the type prohibited by the Act.

Championed by Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Section 1062 was necessary because of a preposterous regulation imposed by the garrison commander of Fort Riley, Kans., similar regulations imposed on other bases, and a regulation DOD was considering to impose department-wide—schemes which violated and threatened to violate the privacy, self-defense and Second Amendment rights of military personnel and their families.

This proposal is consistent with the 1997 Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Firearms Trafficking in the Americas (CIFTA) signed by President Clinton, but never ratified by the Senate

For instance, such a treaty might require federal licensing and registration of any firearms possessed by individuals

When the Supreme Court ruled in McDonald v. Chicago over the summer that the right to bear arms does apply to the states, the victory’s sweetness for conservatives was short-lived. Almost immediately, gun-rights advocates braced themselves for more battles against the city’s many regulatory hurdles and licensing schemes.

And there were plenty. Just days after Chicago’s gun ban was ruled unconstitutional, the city council unanimously approved the Responsible Gun Ownership Ordinance. One of its provisions is that all Chicago residents must present a signed affidavit from a firearms instructor, saying the prospective gun owner completed a training and safety course that includes at least one hour of range time.

There’s just one problem. The city of Chicago bans gun ranges. The only ranges in the city are available to federal employees and police.

City with strictest gun control laws has most officers killed by gunfire

The City of Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation. Up until a few months ago, it was illegal for a private citizen to own or possess a handgun anywhere within the city, including in one's own home. For 2010, Chicago also holds another distinction. More Chicago Police Officers were killed by gunfire this year than any other police agency in the nation. The city also boasts one of the highest violent crime rates in the country, with 1 in 89 residents being victims of violent crime last year.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Inc., the City of Chicago had five police officers killed in the line of duty this year. Four of those were killed by gunfire. This, despite the fact that until June of this year, Chicago did not allow the licensing of handguns. In order to lawfully possess a handgun in Chicago, a citizen was required to have a license. In effect, the Chicago law banned having any type of handgun.

College president shows willingness to learn about guns

"Dialog on campus guns helps clear up perceptions,” this column reported in December, reproducing emails between Kilgore [TX] College President Bill Holda and Jack Burch, CEO of Hill Country Shooting Sports Center. Burch had taken the initiative to contact Dr. Holda after the media had quoted him opposing campus concealed carry reforms using the Luby’s Cafeteria massacre as one of his reasons:

Dr. Holda recently angered both survivors of the shooting and concealed carry advocates by claiming that some of the victims of the massacre (which became a rallying cry for supporters of lawful self-defense) actually shot each other.

Rather than attack Dr. Holda, Mr. Burch established a dialog, swaying him from outright public opposition to considering ways to implement campus carry. Additionally, Holda accepted Burch’s invitation to receive training for himself, his wife and perhaps some colleagues.

Efforts to Politicize Arizona Tragedy Highlight Importance of Proposed Senate Rules Changes

First of all, our prayers go out to the families and victims of the horrific tragedy that took place in Tucson over the weekend. We pray that God will bring comfort to them in this time of trial.

The political left is trying to pin this tragedy on gun owners and conservative talk radio. Never mind the fact that this creep hated the Bible and the U.S. flag, loved the Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf and, according to his friends, was a drug abusing lefty.

But why let the facts get in the way?

Already, we see the pattern we witnessed in Columbine, with liberal politicians flocking like vultures to pick political advantage from a tragedy. Some have blamed people who, like us, are outraged at the unconstitutional, anti-gun contents of ObamaCare.

And New York Congressman Carolyn McCarthy has already announced her intention to suck political benefit from the shootings by introducing anti-gun measures. These apparently include a magazine ban and a gun show ban, notwithstanding the fact that Jared Loughner bought his firearm from a retailer and underwent a Brady Check. (The Instant Check is an unconstitutional requirement in itself, which has failed to stop "gun violence," but that's an issue for another day.)

The calls for banning or restricting gun shows have also spread to the state level. Over the weekend, Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell called for closing the so-called "gun show loophole" and then put GOA in her crosshairs.

"I think it is imperative that my constituents understand that the Virginia General Assembly is yielding on every gun issue to a fringe group called the Gun Owners of America. They make the NRA look reasonable," she said.

Thanks, Senator Howell, we'll take that as a compliment.

A week ago we would have predicted that congressional Democrats would be loath to try to ban firearms in the wake of the 2010 elections. But we can no longer assume that an assault on the Second Amendment is not forthcoming.

Following the Columbine shooting, we utilized long-standing Senate rules to slow down and eventually defeat such an anti-gun assault. But liberal Democrats in the Senate are currently pushing proposals to change the Senate rules to make it easier to ban guns.

Their proposals include:

* A measure to reduce the time for debate on nominations like Supreme Court nominees Sonya Sotomayor or Elena Kagan to two hours;

* A measure to block a Senator's ability to place a "hold" on anti-gun measures (a parliamentary procedure which allows Senators to slow down legislation); and,

* Several measures to restrict or entirely eliminate the filibuster. But as we saw during the fight over the anti-gun ObamaCare bill, the filibuster can be our greatest weapon. We only lost by one vote in the Senate –– and that's a vote that Harry Reid no longer has.

If the filibuster survives these rules changes, then it may be because of a "compromise" which will guarantee Reid three vote-buying amendments at the end of a filibuster. NOTE: The compromise would actually be worse, and it would lock out pro-gun senators like Jim DeMint from the ability to offer any countering amendments.

Tucson Shooting Shows We Make It Too Easy for Dangerous and Irresponsible People to Get Guns

Dear Friend,

Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the people, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, touched directly by the shootings in Tucson Saturday.

The Congresswoman and I have met and discussed gun issues in the past. All of us are deeply saddened and angered by this tragedy. It is unacceptable that Americans of all backgrounds, as well as our elected leaders and their constituents, are constantly at risk from gun violence when assembling in public places.

The 22 year-old shooter in Tucson was not allowed to enlist in the military, was asked to leave school, and was considered "very disturbed" (according to former classmates), but that's not enough to keep someone from legally buying as many guns as they want in America.

http://www.bradynetwork.org/site/MessageViewer/?em_id=42821.0&dlv_id=47142&pgwrap=n

Yet, no mention of the fact that one of the first people on the scene was a legal CCW, who was willing to put himself in harms way to stop the shooter, but had the presence of mind that he never even drew his weapon.

Shameless

Sarah Brady and her anti-gun cabal are simply shameless.

Never one to let a tragedy go un-politicized, the Brady Campaign is once again using the blood of innocents to raise money for their anti-freedom agenda.

While our thoughts and prayers were going out the victims of the Tucson shooting, that Brady Campaign machine was shamefully spinning up their fundraising machine.

In an e-mail from the Brady campaign, they used the deaths of a nine-year-old girl, a Federal judge and a Congressional aide to raise money for their group, repeatedly asking for donations in the short e-mail.

It’s simply shocking to me that they would shamelessly try to raise blood-money off of these deaths.

I’ve attached their tasteless fundraising e-mail below, so you can see exactly what I’m referring to.

For freedom,

Usual suspects line up to exploit Giffords shooting

"A right to bear Glocks?” a New York Times opinion piece by columnist Gail Collins asks in the wake of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. It’s one of two "What’s Popular Now?” Facebook offerings promoted on that Times website page, the other being "Climate of Hate,” by Paul Krugman.

Both repeat themes familiar to gun rights advocates. And behind both themes are motivations to swindle the public into further infringements on the right to keep and bear arms and shame political opposition into silence.

Quick to exploit the obscenity in Tucson—and to prove my point––is the Brady Campaign of "People Dead—Send Money” notoriety. Paul Helmke and Dennis Henigan are both in full blame guns and rhetoric mode.

Carolyn McCarthy readies gun control bill

One of the fiercest gun control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson, Ariz., Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday targeting the high-capacity ammunition clip the gunman used.

McCarthy ran for Congress after her husband was gunned down and her son seriously injured in a shooting in 1993 on a Long Island commuter train.

"My staff is working on looking at the different legislation fixes that we might be able to do and we might be able to introduce as early as tomorrow,” McCarthy told POLITICO in a Sunday afternoon phone interview
