Ran across this on the /r/UIUC subreddit. Interesting question. Does anybody know the answer?

Somebody moved here from California for school, and is over 18 but under 21. Has an Illinois drivers' license.

Applied for a FOID card and was told that they needed parental consent. But apparently parental consent can only be given if the parent is an Illinois resident--the paper form requires the parent's drivers' license or state ID number.

Is there a remedy for this? It's bad enough that the state requires a parental permission slip for an adult to exercise his rights, but denying it altogether because the parent lives in a different state? Fucking Illinois.

Simplest fix would be to get Cal. Drivers liscense then he wouldn't need a FOID.  But, this may be for $$ school savings.
Otherwise he an appeal the decision and most likely succeed if his parents aren't otherwise prohibited.  It has been done.
