My 5 and 2 year old want to try fishing. I used to as a kid but it’s been a while. We are staying 2 nights at Red Mountain state park on the water.

I know that they can fish for free. Do I need a license just to help? How much “help” would constitute me fishing?

In Texas you didn’t need a license if you were at a paid state park

Get a  license. It'll go a long way.

If youre holding a pole by water, you need a license. They are cheap and you can buy it directly from the GA DNR phone app.

If you are doing ANYTHING with any fishing requirement, you are fishing.

If you carry their poles, you are fishing.

If you bait their hook, you are fishing.

If you you tie a hook, you are fishing.

*this is the answer I got when asking along one of that boys in green. All my kids have their lifetime sportsman license, but being under 18 I'm still responsible
