I'm currently using a work issued phone that is on Verizon.  I've been very happy with the service,  data speed, and coverage.

I'm looking to get a phone for personal use and have been looking at the $10-20 per month plans but the seem to be with T-mobile, etc where Verizon plans start at $35.  I just need it for calling a couple times a week and some data when I am away from home.

How is the T-mobile coverage and some of the lower cost carriers in northern Utah?

I have Verizon mostly because I'm too stubborn to change, but I'm pretty sure most if not all my co-workers use T-mobile up here in Logan. Haven't heard them complain about it, and it must be doing alright for as much as they're on their phones during the day.

I’m in north Ogden, been a satisfied T-mobile user for years with our personal phones, my work phone is through Verizon. If I’m having issues with my personal phone, I will also have issues with the work phone. My work phone was AT&T for several years, it worked fine for calling, but the data connection was flaky on occasion in random areas.

I have had TMobile, AT&T, Verizon, and now Visible, in that order and used all of them extensively throughout Utah and Wyoming.

TMobile didn't work well for me, either in urban areas or the backcountry.  AT&T was okay, but had spotty coverage in Wyoming where I work a lot.  Verizon was the best, but overpriced.  I recently switched to Visible, which uses Verizon's network and it is the best bang for the buck (for me at least).  If you get on a group plan, you can get it for $25 a month, which is ridiculously cheap for unlimited everything (including data).  The only thing I've given up going from Verizon to Visible was a bit of data speed, but it hasn't really been noticeable, and for $25 vs $95, I don't care.

I had to buy a new phone when I switched to Visible as they didn't support my Moto G5 Plus, but they had a Moto G7 Power on sale for $110.  I paid for that in plan savings in less than two months.  If you're a phone snob Visible may not be for you - I just use mine for work and don't care too much about the latest and greatest.

Thanks for all the replies.

I ended up with Mint, which uses T Mobile for $15 a month and so far, so good.  About 1 week into it without travel through the mountains yet but we'll see.
