Sunday me and my wife are headed to Custer State Park.  We would like to take a day to go to Deadwood.  But mostly find tourist trap stuff to do.  Is it worth the 2 hour drive to just drive around the town and see some of the old sites?  Or are we better of staying closer to Custer and seeing more there?

There isn't actually all that much historical stuff to see in Deadwood. if you were passing through its worth a stop but don't go out of your way unless you want to gamble or have a decent casino dinner. If you do go, head up to Lead and see the Homestake mine, I thought that was cooler than Deadwood.

You can see some REALLY cool stuff if you go on the off-season and schmooze the staff. Got to see some really neat behind-the-scenes stuff. Tunnels, “haunted” rooms, underground stream, suicide sites, etc.
