So I am going to be in FL in September for Microsoft Ignite.  They are having the conference at the Orange County Convention Center.  Is concealed carry allowed at this place that any of your know of?

Other question does anyone have a link to the FL carry laws that I can review?  Any insight about your carry laws would be helpful things I should look out for or know.

It's been awhile, but every time I was there they banned it. It's a .gov entity and they shouldn't, but they claim that because they can dispense alcohol everywhere that it's within code to be off limits. We need a nice lawsuit on them.

Hopefully someone closer to the situation can chime in.

I've never tried to carry there, but I almost never go there, last time was the NRA convention 10 years ago or more.

But there's no legal basis for them to restrict carry.

Here's the statute

Here's the prohibited places:

(12)(a) A license issued under this section does not authorize any person to openly carry a handgun or carry a concealed weapon or firearm into:
1. Any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05;
2. Any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station;
3. Any detention facility, prison, or jail;
4. Any courthouse;
5. Any courtroom, except that nothing in this section would preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his or her courtroom;
6. Any polling place;
7. Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district;
8. Any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof;
9. Any school, college, or professional athletic event not related to firearms;
10. Any elementary or secondary school facility or administration building;
11. Any career center;
12. Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose;
13. Any college or university facility unless the licensee is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile;
14. The inside of the passenger terminal and sterile area of any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is encased for shipment for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; or
15. Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.
(b) A person licensed under this section shall not be prohibited from carrying or storing a firearm in a vehicle for lawful purposes

Depends on the event. Some have used them, others have not. No rhyme or reason to their thought process. Sorry.

This, we have our annual IITSEC conference there, and no detectors.  Went to a smaller convention last year and got wanded, so I guess it depends.

I am going to Microsoft Ignite which is a huge conference.  I would think wanding that many people would require some serious staff.  My hotel is very near the conference (waking distance) so I can scope things out.

Appreciate all the replies... Does Florida have no carry signs that I need to look out for.  Here in Texas we have the 30.06(conceal) and 30.07(open) signs that have to be displayed and follow the law exactly or they are invalid.  Are all no gun signs valid or does it have to be specific sign?

Signs carry no weight of law here.

But if asked to leave and and you refuse, you can be popped for armed trespass.

Only worry about what's listed here...  12(a)
