Hello everyone,

I will be visiting Cincinnati next week. I would like a few recommendations from the Hometown crowd.

We will be staying in Covington, KY.

Is there a great place to eat a steak in the Covington/Cincinnati area?

Is there a great distillery in the Covington/Cincinnati area?

Our original plan was to drive the three hours to Bourbon County and visit Makers Mark yet with my Fathers health we decided against it.

Also if any of you have any other ideas or fun stuff to do in this area please feel free to let me know. We will have a few days to just explore the area.

Thank you.

Head up to the Air Force museum in Dayton.
Probably about an hour from Covington and well worth it.

Didn't the museum in the train station just re-open? Was at a wedding there a few years back and it seemed like a cool place. https://www.cincymuseum.org/

You can't leave the Cincinnati area without stopping at Skyline Chili. At least try a Coney and a 3-way. https://www.skylinechili.com/

I'd while not a steak the meats at Montgomery Inn are well known, you'll probably want to take home a bottle of BBQ Sauce http://www.montgomeryinn.com/

As previously mentioned, the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base is a must-see if you've never been. Completely worth the drive from Covington. https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/
It looks like they no longer do tours of the restoration hangars. Too bad.

This may be crazy and not what you're looking for, but THE BEST cheese sticks I've ever had were at a place called Authur's in Hyde Park. Mostly a bar/restaurant but I try to stop when I'm in town. http://arthurscincinnati.com/

Again, don't miss Skyline Chili and the Air Force Museum.

If you are looking for steak and staying in covington, check out Main Stausse which everyone in town will guide ya too. It's an old german neighborhood with bars and restaurants there. I like Dee Felice. On the weekend, they have live jazz. If you are ok driving around 5 miles, check out any Jeff Ruby Steak house. My preferred favorite is a place called "the precinct". Great atmosphere and food.

The Cincinnati Museum center is a neat place to visit. It's just across the river and maybe a 5-10 minute drive. They have been in the process of renovation for the last few years and it opened back up wide scale last week but isn't completely finished. Check out the Holiday junction there. it's a great old school train display along with other displays. The other museum which may or may not be back open is the Cincinnati in motion of through the war exhibit. Neat with ww2 stuff.

The Cincinnati Art museum is rather cool and free. A nice little cafe in there.

Try to find any cincinnati style chili from Skyline, Gold star, Dixie Chili, etc. It's not texas style. We absolutely love it!

For distilleries in the area I know of 3

https://newriffdistilling.com/#  in Newport Ky. in front of the Party Source, good place to shop.

https://boonedistilling.com/  about a 15 minute drive south on 71/75

http://secondsightspirits.com/ in Ludlow Ky. small place, owner is a very nice guy.

For a  brewery I can only recommend where I work  http://www.woodencask.com/ in Newport Ky.

For other things to do in the area check out https://cincinnatiusa.com/

Festival of lights at the Zoo

Also a fairly unique experience is a dinner cruise at B&B riverboats

Winterfest at Kings Island

The train display is back at Union Terminal

There are drive through Xmas light displays at Sharon Woods and Coney Island

The aquarium in Newport might be worth a visit

Thank you all for your recommendations!!

My Dad and I would really enjoy the U.S. Air Force museum. That will be a must go.

We will also visit Jeff Ruby’s Precinct for a steak.

I would enjoy the train layout so we’re going there.

The Wife would like to see the zoo lights.

I would also like to visit one of the distilleries and a few breweries.

ETA: My father and I have had skyline before. Though my brother and my wife have not so we will be going there for a bite after the football game. I might have to test those cheese sticks out as well.

Is there any recommendations for a good BBQ place?

montgomery inn has good ribs...

...not sure what dates of your visit are, ..but if you're going to be here on dec 1st (this saturday) you might be interested in the carriage festival in lebanon (about 30-45 min drive north of cincinnati) - horse drawn carriages parade, food, shops, etc in historic lebanon...

...also in lebanon, ...if you'd like to dine at a really unique and historic place, go to the Golden Lamb...  it's all decked out for Christmas, and has wonderful history going back over 200 years - many U.S. presidents have stayed there...  we were there last week, wonderful atmosphere and great food!  ..recommend calling ahead for reservation...

The best Indian food bar none is at the Bombay Brazier in Montgomery right around the corner from the Montgomery Inn.

Hofbrauhaus if you like German food/bierhall type stuff.

Party Source if you ever wondered what a grocery store would look like if they sold nothing but booze and booze accessories.

ETA:  Jungle Jim's in Fairfield is the coolest grocery store on the planet.  Don't believe me, just check out their bathrooms.

Beer: Rhinegeist on Elm Street in Cincinnati’s Over The Rhine neighborhood, lots of places to eat around there as well. Christian Moerliein has a tap room a few blocks south on Vine Street.
