If you guys aren’t in the know, almost ALL of the big conventions for the coming months have cancelled.
People in the service industry, and businesses where those people spend their money, are in for a tight budget. I’m in conventions, and almost ALL of us have been put out of work for the foreseeable future. Even when this panic blows over, the damage is done as most of these shows are annual and won’t rebook until their normal slot next year. So... tip your bartender and go see shows if you can afford it! |

Strip construction is coming to a screaming halt as well. Especially remodels and updates at major resorts. 2008 all over again.

We'll recover. We always have and the stadium that none of us wanted will sew us back up tight again.
It's all a game. Just relax. |

View Quote You see all that convention space we’re building as fast as possible? It’s all made possible by on-call/temp workers who build and service the shows. They have no employer to pay them when there are no shows in town. We’ll recover just fine and it will be straight back to business as usual, but we should all be prepared to weather a bit of a storm. |

Rental AV business is getting crushed. View Quote I was just at the top rigging provider in town, and all but about 2 shows including tours have cancelled. We are seeing it up in Reno as well with both regular business travel and groups/events dropping off big time.
Obviously, we don't have as many citywide conventions to lose as Las Vegas but any major event cancelling has an effect. Reno Jazz Festival (9,000 attendance) scheduled for April just cancelled today. While I agree we will recover, the effect in the meantime has the potential to be pretty rough for many. I work in non-gaming lodging and I can tell you that hotel owners that are proactive are instructing their management teams to make plans now to cut controllable costs by up to 30% through at least June. The most costly and yet controllable expense is labor and that means cutting hours and shifts significantly. There is a lot of belt-tightening going on right now at a lot of different levels. |

I have a trip to Vegas planned for April 2-5. Am I screwed? I’ve been flying for the past 3 weeks for work and will continue next week. I’m being careful but not that worried about it.
The wife and I had plans to rent a Lambo from Royalty, staying at Aria, and have entertainment shows scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Is everything canceling out? |

Not yet, but our shitbag governor just declared a state of emergency, so it is now his call.

Besides the shows I'd say perfect time to come. The Strip will probably be a ghost town and the Lambo might be 1/2 price. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

We are driving to LV arriving on 4/28, hopefully Duran Duran still shows up May 1st at the Cosmopolitan.
Things will have to completely shut down for us not to come. Your economy will get our cash :) |

I have worked at the Bellagio since 2005, Saturday was my last day. Came into work, they gave us our unemployment papers. My manager said he would call us if he hears anything, but really no timeframes on when to expect to get our job back, if at all. Only positive thing that has happened, the culinary union is going to cover our health insurance for 6 months.
Looks like i will be getting to spend a lot of time with my kids, so that's a plus. |

I just started a new thread but reno mayor made the call to shut down bars restaurants etc. what a shitshow.

Please, Brothers and Sisters, don't lose faith. As drastic and barbaric as it is, this is the LAST attempt they have at taking down President Trump before the Election and they will only succeed if we let them.
We are gun owners and gun owners are preppers by nature. We will weather this storm and they will lose and we will recover triumphantly! Attached File |

All these people out of work need unemployment and a state tax could pay for that. Ya. Right. |

The Governor is out of his fucking mind.
30-days of shutdown for non-essential businesses in the state. |

Without something changing in treatment and containment opening up so soon defeats the entire purpose of the closures. Who want's to business in that kind of environment? One outbreak at a resort and it's Plague Princess 2.0, lawyers will line up and customers will flee. I think we a truly screwed, but pray I'm wrong. |

The state does not reopen until May the 4th. That is, when the governors office reevaluates the third week of April to let us know if it is a go or the date is pushed back to June 1st.

Whatever it takes to destroy us. See my post tonight regarding the IHME COVID model site. I have real data now on Southern NV and the information they are calculating is felonious, it is wrong, completely wrong and an actual lie, not a modeling mistake because it is based on actual hospital occupancy and modeled CV infection rates.

With over a month having passed why have NONE of Nevada's Covid cases recovered?

I just hate that there’s two extremes in play and I can’t figure out where we actually are. Renown in Reno is converting their parking garage to beds. I can’t imagine that was done lightly.
Either way I feel like we are one the states that’s going to get a good deep boning. With total loss of gaming revenue on top of the “normal” losses expected it’s going to be rough. |

View Quote I think there is a degree of "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" in play; this damn virus spreads like wildfire if unchecked; NYC proved that, and no one really knows how well americans will react to social distancing/voluntary quarantine directives because culturally you are a hard headed lot (sorry, born canadian, can't technically include myself). It makes sense to prepare for worst forecast case, and to make matters harder, there is no accurate forecast method yet -- so they make sure there are hospital resources in extra excess. No one wants to see cv19 patients lying on carpet bits in parking lots... If we prepare for an onslaught that doesn't come, that's better than not preparing and getting hit ( see: italy) |

So I was told again that I will resume operations in the last week of April and reopen the state offices May the 4th.
But.....my wife who works for the federal government in this state had a meeting with the state of Nevada gov and were told end of May today. I’m high up enough in the state to know that this will suck. Have to worry about gaming re-opening and enough taxes can be generated for the biennium. Doctors talking about social distancing for the next 2 years and the virus can come back . I think this will actually kill our state. I’m in the 60-70% bracket for seniority, but even I am afraid of cuts. New Stadium gonna suck, Casinos gonna suck, As both of these models cannot work with a contagious disease. Was also sick as anything back in Early March, but was over it in about 2 weeks. Gave it to my wife and kids, thought it was the flu, but we all tested negative. I am wondering if I had it (I have a lot of public contact) as it was the worse sickness I can ever remember having. F-me this is going to be a tough year-s. Sorry for the rambling rant I need to take up drinking. At least the devil weeds is helping us with taxes this go around. |

I am NOT a fan of either of the Goodmans BUT I think Carolyn will have Sisolak "disappear" if he announces we are going to the end of May. She's had enough and is very vocal about it.
Sad the 80+ yo woman mayor of LV has more balls than the Governor..... |
