Soon, @kalahnikid and I will be coming to Houston to visit my family and we'll be spending a couple days in the Austin and San Antonio area.

What areas of both do I want to be concentrating on for hotels? No ghetto, please.

Also, what meat-centered restaurants do you recommend? We are carnivores!

Aside from the normal visit to The Alamo, River Walk and the State Capital, do you have any suggestions for fun things to do/see?

TIA

You could get a hotel in some place like San Marcos and kinda be in-between SA and ATX. All depends on what you want to do. I'm in ATX, so happy to offer up some other suggestions as far as food and such.

The https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/satnb-courtyard-new-braunfels-river-village/ is a great hotel right on the river.

Snows BBQ in Lexington is worth the trip from most anywhere but only open Saturday.  You also need to be on line at 2-3 am...yeah am but the waiting and meeting folks while having a few cold ones is half the fun.

The Burnt Bean in downtown Sequin is a crazy good BBQ place that is really coming on strong. People from hours away are coming to eat...yeah it's that good. I don't believe they have a website.

Also a couple Of Brazilian steakhouses are in downtown SA and a few are off 1604 for your meat fix.
