There will be an Appleseed event at the Memphis Sport Shooting Assoc this May 30-31. If you don't know about Appleseed, it is a two day rifle and heritage event where you will learn the fundamentals of marksmanship and hear the story of April 19, 1775, the day the Revolutionary War kicked off. It is always a great time and you will learn a lot. Whether you are an experienced shooter or have never fired a rifle before, going to Appleseed will improve your shooting. You don't need a lot of equipment, and loaner rifles are available if you need one or know someone who does.

This event is a 25 meter event and you will shoot at reduced silhouette targets that represent full size targets at 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards. You will shoot from standing, sitting, and prone. Don't be fooled by the 25 meter range. It is a challenging course of fire with reloads under time. It can be humbling. But don't worry. The instructors will teach you everything you need to know to be successful. It is a great way to get kids or new shooters grounded in the fundamentals or get back to basics if you are a long time shooter. If you have kids they definitely need to come to hear about how and why the Revolutionary War began. They won't hear it in school any more.

Most people use a 10-22 for their first event to save on ammo costs, but you can shoot rimfire or centerfire.

Check out the Appleseed website for info on how to prepare for an Appleseed and to sign up. I can't say enough good things about Appleseed and what it will do for your shooting.

So quit sitting around thinking about improving your shooting and come on out and get some trigger time and learn a lot of useful info. Grab your rifle and a buddy and come on. You will be amazed how much fun you have and how much better you will shoot if you do. Message me if you want to learn more or want to arrange for a loaner rifle.

Right now we are all cooped up with COVID going around. Ammo is a little scarce. There are a lot of lessons being learned during this situation and one of them is the value of marksmanship and community. So come on out and be part of a group that values marksmanship and freedom. In all likelihood the other participants will be from nearby. Meet some like minded folks in your area and have a great time. We all need to get out of the house and there is plenty of room so we won't be bunched up. Even if you can't come up with ammo it is OK. I bet there is some ammo around for this event if you need rimfire.

Sometimes Appleseed is misunderstood as a rimfire event for kids. We certainly love to have young people on the line, but it is a lot more than that. Here is an article by the man who revamped the Army Marksmanship Program. Take a look at it and see what he has to say about Appleseed.

Right now there are 6 slots left. The event is a go unless the county changes the COVID status between now and then. That is not anticipated though.

There are two slots left folks. Should be a great event. Don't let lack of equipment deter you. We can gear you up. All you have to do is show up with your lunch and a cooler of waters.
