When we moved in in May, there was a hole I noticed. Now the hole has grown with this dirt clump on top. I've never seen anything like it.

I've seen them before, but never knew.

Assumed snake or something related.

Interdasting. I just searched that image and it does look like that. I wonder why it's up against the house. Thanks!

This is what I assumed as well. I had no question about it until I started seeing the clumps form on top/around it.

Yep. Mudbug, crawdad, crawfish, Missouri lobster, fishing bait, and other various names we give these crustaceans.

Crawdaddys where I come from!

Yup they are from crawdads. I get them all of the time in the drainage ditch since it doesn't drain properly and is always wet. I have also found them in my garden too. Now if I could only catch enough of them to fix crawdad etouffee or they are big enough for fish bait, I would be happy happy happy.

Moisture enough to support a burrow.  Maybe a french drain or something similar is clogged, or you just have near-surface standing water.

The hole is in the garden bed which is watered often. That makes sense.

I call that a crawdad castle.  I see them a lot in some creek bottom ground I farm in the spring.

Hi,

Could that be "moles"?  I have some of those in my yard, but nowheres near any body of water.

Cicada killers also dig similar holes.

That's definitely a crawdad.
